POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for directing all aspects of UAII's Behavioral Health policies, objectives, and initiatives and is responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, recommending changes, and assisting with their implementation. The DBH is part of a multi-disciplinary team representing the agency at community events, meetings, and program reviews. The DBH provides leadership and direction for Behavioral Health and works to ensure the integration of services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with colleagues and supervisor, set vision for BH services, and develop annual workplans (goals and objectives) that support UAII's strategic plan.
- Represent UAII and its interests to public and private groups such as city, county, state, and federal government offices and social/civic organizations.
- Establish and ensure adherence to agency policies and applicable funding guidelines and advance the goals of UAII in a manner that embodies the agency's philosophy.
- Maintain and evaluate the need for improvements to BH workflows and documentation.
- Ensure continuous availability of the "warm handoff" consultation service for medical staff.
- Manage UAII's BH referral processes ensuring access to BH services.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary case conferences/rounds.
- Work collaboratively with clinical operations and clinical directors to ensure BH programming, goals and objectives meet the needs of UAII's patients.
- Participate in required administrative, clinical, and education/training meetings.
- Provide regular and timely feedback and reports to medical and behavioral health administrative leadership and other stakeholders pertaining to Behavioral Health service operations.
- Lead grant projects and contracts that apply to BH services.
- Facilitate or participate in associated meetings, quality improvement efforts with project managers and support staff.
- Actively participate in county meetings and work with UAII administration to identify, evaluate, and apply for new project opportunities.
- As needed, provide clinical consultation/liaison services and education for staff, projects, and departments.
- Manage and oversee departmental & program budgets.
- Lead and actively participate in Programmatic Technical Reviews and Audits and corrective action plans.
Direct Service Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide medically necessary, service-plan driven, and culturally proficient behavioral health treatment services for people presenting with a broad range of psychological conditions.
- Conduct clinical intakes and behavioral health assessments.
- Provide case management and service linkages.
- Create and regularly review individualized service plans.
- Document and track service activities in electronic health record systems.
- Provide clinical decision support and leadership on crisis walk-ins and calls.
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, supervise and represent UAII's Behavioral Health (BH) staff and trainees.
- Ensure staff/trainee completion of BH service onboarding and training.
- Resolve staffing issues and facilitate conflict resolution for staff under direct supervision.
- Effectively lead and retain BH staff by fostering a team environment.
- Manage BH provider case assignments and maintain optimal provider productivity.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively contribute to quality assurance and improvement (QA/QI) projects and initiatives.
- Ensure maximal quality of services and compliance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization.
- Work extremely well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- Must have knowledge and experience demonstrating competence in planning and budgeting, fiscal management, supervision, personnel management, employee performance assessment, and data collection and reporting.
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Must have 5+ years of clinical practice experience post-licensure.
- Must have 5+ years of management experience in clinical service management.
- Must have knowledge of child development and education, family counseling, substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, and primary health care.
Certifications:
- Licensed Clinical Psychologist or Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of California, in good standing.
Confidentiality:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA.
Communication/ Interpersonal Skills:
- Proven ability to manage own behavior to successfully navigate work relationships and social complexities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Technology Skills:
- Experience working in an electronic health record system.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Other:
- Available and willing to travel as needed.
- Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
