This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Our MK2 Crew Lander mission will demonstrate the lander's core capabilities - including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and integrated power and propulsion architecture - as a precursor to certifying the vehicle for use by NASA as part of the Artemis lunar exploration program. The team building this vehicle is rethinking how space systems are designed, with a high-performance architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will work to design, analyze, build, test, integrate, deliver, and operate fluids and propulsion subsystems on Lunar Landers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for leading a team of technical designers generating, integrating and releasing CAD models of fluids and propulsion subsystems for Lunar vehicles
- Accountable for execution of technical design deliverables while balancing cost, schedule, and risk
- Integrate with the broader vehicle team to solve the most challenging integrated lunar lander design optimization problems
- Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team
- Manage your team's professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management)
- Develop tools and processes to improve team capability and performance
- Develop robust plans meeting deliverables and manage to the key operating metrics - including technical, cost, schedule, and risk
- Monitor technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, deliverables and risks as well as review recommendations for change with program management
- Communicate progress to leadership team via; program management reviews weekly/monthly, finance reviews, long term forecasting business plan, and project deep dives
- Utilize good engineering and business judgement to ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical subject area
- Demonstrated ability to provide cost and schedule leadership of a team
- 5+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching employees
- 10+ years directly related experience
- In depth understanding of CAD modeling, mechanical and structural engineering principles
- Track record of delivering complex products, on schedule and in budget
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired:
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical subject area
- Experience with aerospace vehicle design
- Experience with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM and GD&T
- Familiarity with agile project management
- Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM
- Experience interviewing and hiring for technical roles
Compensation Range:
CA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00; CO applicants is $125,235.00-$175,329.00; WA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00
