Chief of Thoracic Anesthesia - UMass Memorial Health, Memorial Campus,

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center, the clinical partner of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine in Worcester, MA, is looking for a Chief of our Thoracic Anesthesia Team. The Department comprises 160 clinical providers with diverse cultural backgrounds, delivering state of the art perioperative care across a clinical platform which has grown to include 7 clinical sites: three Hospitals, two Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and two GI centers.
This position offers an opportunity to lead the Thoracic Anesthesia team covering 600 thoracic procedures annually, including 300 robotic procedures, 40 open thoracotomies, and a variety of other thoracoscopic and open thoracic surgical procedures. The Division of Thoracic Surgery at UMass Memorial Health is one of the first in the nation to offer robotic, robotic one anesthetic diagnosis and treatment (RODAT) for pulmonary nodules. In addition, the Thoracic Anesthesia team is supporting our growing Division of Interventional Pulmonology performing over 250 cases in the procedural areas annually including state of the art navigational bronchoscopy, and rigid bronchoscopies.

In addition to leadership of the Thoracic Anesthesia Service the Memorial Hospital environment offers:
- 17 operating rooms with 12,000 cases annually
- Multiple robotic rooms for General, GYN, and Ortho cases
- A busy high-risk Obstetric service with 5000 deliveries/year
- 25 adult ICU beds
Responsibilities
- Oversee the onboarding process for new faculty joining the team.
- Maintain the highest level of expertise within the Team, and adherence to evidence based standards through continuing medical education.
- Supervise standardization of the day-to-day clinical operations of Thoracic Anesthesia services.
- Interface with the leadership of the Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology (IP) services to create an efficient surgical workflow.
- Collaborate with the Anesthesia Site Chief and the Chief of Thoracic Surgery and IP to implement evidence-based ERAS protocols for patients undergoing thoracic procedures.
- Training and supervision of residents, and CRNAs.
- Support professional and clinical advancement of faculty who are part of the Team.
- Collaborate with leadership in Anesthesia Technical Support to evaluate and maintain equipment and supplies needed for Thoracic anesthesia services.
- Educate the Anesthesiology Department in advancements for Thoracic Anesthesia and IP.
- Support and conduct collaborative research in advancement of Thoracic Anesthesia.

Requirements
- MD, DO or foreign equivalent, and qualify for a Massachusetts license.
- Be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology.
