PART 1: JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
- Coordinates, monitors, and documents, if necessary, all assessments timely and appropriately.
- Reviews Plan of Care as needed for their accuracy and accountability of staff.
- Reviews progress notes as needed for tardiness and accuracy of treatment outcome.
- Designs and implements a comprehensive Therapeutic Program of activities for the Residents, accommodating their needs, abilities, and interests.
- Adheres to the written objectives, standards of practice, policies and procedures, and organizational plan for the Therapeutic Recreation department and ensures all Therapeutic Recreation personnel are being supervised for adherence to same.
- Coordinates and integrates the Recreation services with the other services of the Facility and with other patient care services in the community.
- Approves supply requisitions prepared by the Program Assistant(s)/Aide(s).
- Prepares and posts a written monthly activities schedule for their area.
- Maintains an on-going community resources file containing:
- volunteer sources;
- community organization;
- entertainment and film sources;
- educational facilities dealing with disciplines in gerontology and therapeutic recreation.
- Participates in the Patient Care and Ethics, Evaluation, and Infection Control Meetings.
- Maintains a working relationship with Administration through conferences, written memoranda, and other methods of exchanging information.
- Prepares and implements policies and procedures as they relate to their specific area within the Recreation Department.
- Oversees the overall performance of the Recreation staff for this area.
- Coordinates, organizes, schedules, manages, and monitors Recreation staff, Floor Coordinators, and Behavioral Assistants.
- Assists with and/or performs the duties and responsibilities of a Recreation Aide as necessary or needed to ensure continuity of care and success of the Recreation Department programs.
PART II: FACILITY-WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
- Is courteous with Residents, co-workers, and visitors.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with HIPAA, and resident and employee confidentiality.
- Demonstrates ability to cooperate and work with others.
- Demonstrates flexibility in assignments to fill facility’s needs.
- Arrives for work on time as scheduled on a consistent basis and uses time effectively.
- Adheres to department dress codes at all times.
- Knows and understands policy and procedure on resident abuse.
- Acts in a professional manner always.
- Demonstrates knowledge of company codes and responses to emergencies.
- Develops and monitors a QA program which is monitored at least monthly and updated/revised as needed. Develops Quality Indicators as they relate to their specific area.
- Schedules employees in accordance with the facility’s needs. Supervises recreation staff, including therapists and aides, and performs all related administrative functions including issuing disciplinary action when indicated.
- Evaluates/recommends appropriate activities programs for residents. Provides guidance, consultations, and training to staff.
- Oversees the overall performance of the Recreation Department in assigned area.
- Coordinates the In-Service schedule for Recreation staff based on need and Department goals.
- Interviews, selects, and hires recreation staff according to department needs.

- Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations.
- Must be able to write & speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must attend mandatory and scheduled in-services/meetings.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with Residents, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must possess the ability to relate and work with physically and emotionally challenged.
