Salesforce, Inc. seeks to hire a proactive, business-oriented and tech-savvy attorney to serve as legal counsel supporting Salesforce's Public Sector Cloud. This attorney will provide day-to-day counsel on legal issues impacting engineers and developers as well as product and security teams within Salesforce's security, technology and product organization. This role will provide legal support for architecture and infrastructure related projects, and matters related to running Salesforce services on infrastructure dedicated to U.S. Government agencies and contractors, as well as associated data usage, security, privacy, intellectual property, open source, commercial contract and government contract compliance and other regulatory compliance issues.
Using a broad knowledge base to assess and mitigate risk, you will bring together cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and compliance. You will also play an important role in shaping policies and processes and drive important compliance initiatives relating to product development, infrastructure, privacy and data protection.
The role is open in the DC, Maryland, Virginia metropolitan area, but other regions are also acceptable.
Description of Role:
- Serve as a partner in the business and trusted counsel to executives, product managers, security teams and engineers to ensure that Salesforce products, services and infrastructure are US-public-sector ready and comply with applicable laws, including privacy regulations and US government specific regulatory and control frameworks.
- Collaborate across all Salesforce legal teams, and cross-functionally with the company's sales, operations, engineering, information technology, and marketing groups to create awareness of and ensure compliance with laws and regulations associated with the Salesforce's Public Sector cloud and other Engineering initiatives.
- Advise security, engineering and product teams on the impact of new public sector laws and regulations.
- Advise on legal/security related matters impacting sensitive government customer deployments of products.
- Advise on U.S. FedRAMP and other public sector domestic certifications for our products and infrastructure.
- Managing incident reporting for government customers.
- Collaborate with the Public Sector Commercial Legal Team regarding new and developing laws and regulations related to US government contracting and procurement requirements relating to the sale of our products to the government customers.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- At least 12+ years combined legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department (preferably in the technology industry, with significant relevant transactional and product counseling experience (SaaS deployment model and public cloud experience preferred).
- Significant experience providing legal advice and counsel on governance and compliance issues arising from engagements with the U.S Federal Government.
- Familiarity with key regulatory requirements in the SaaS and public cloud space, including privacy and data protection issues.
- Knowledge of and practical experience with FedRAMP, public sector technology compliance issues, and strong technical background.
- Discernment and experience, with the ability to understand the company's business and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings.
- High work quality and the ability to resolve time sensitive issues with precision.
- Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Collegiality and ability to work as part of a team, maintaining strong relationships across the organization.

- Active Top Secret Clearance Required

For Washington D.C based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $204,400 to $296,400.
