POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Engineering is primarily responsible for providing facilities capital planning (new & expansions), capital project coordination/management, and process design and engineering to the various entities under Jackson Family Wines, with particular focus on projects with the winery production team. In addition, the Director of Engineering will provide support on a variety of real estate, vineyard, and compliance projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
- Prepare capital budgets and schedules for planning purposes for presentations to executive management and ownership.
- Requests and manages large capital projects (new facilities, expansion, and remodel).
- Develops project schedules and ensures work is completed within established timeline and within budgetary restrictions.
- Negotiates and administers project contracts.
- Coordinate and assist in design for production improvements.
- Provide support to various entities on maintenance and facility performance to include identifying problems and inefficiencies.
- Maintains regular communication with field coordinators/construction managers to ensure quality control and adherence to project schedules.
- Ensures that all necessary permits and approvals are received and required inspections are scheduled and completed.
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in communications to executive management and ownership.
- Reviews facilities annually for capital projects with SVP Engineering and General Managers and develops budget for presentation to executive management.
- Strong background and experience with engineering, design, maintenance and safety related to manufacturing operations.
- Strong background and experience in all aspects of project management to include scope development, bidding, contract administration, scheduling, budgeting, construction and commissioning.
- Experience managing other disciplines (engineering & architectural) to achieve a common goal Working knowledge of refrigeration, wastewater treatment, water treatment, material handling equipment (including conveyors) and pumps.
- Knowledge of permitting processes, compliance and safety (OSHA)
- Performs outreach and regular Real Estate department and company-wide cross functional communications as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Process Engineering or related field.
Experience:
10-15 years of experience managing major capital projects related to facilities and/or engineering in a food or beverage manufacturing and/or processing environment. Ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer in Civil or Mechanical engineering.
Skills/Ablities:
Strong communication and time management skills. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and creative skills with the ability to manage priorities and workflow. Proven ability to work well independently (and unsupervised at times) as well as part of a team. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels. Creative, flexible, and an innovative team player. Must be detail oriented. Must be willing to travel and work evening/weekends on occasion.
Computer Skills:
Advanced MS Office skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, AutoCAD, SketchUp/Revit or other 3D design tools. Construction management software (e.g. Primavera, Procore, BlueBeam, Smartsheet, or similar, etc.) also a plus.
Mental/Emotional Aptitude:
Candidate must have the ability to perform under stress for extended periods of time, with coworkers/internal teams, as well as outside contractors, facility workers, consultants, inspectors etc., and maintain a professional level of decorum. Ability to collaborate and work well with others, superiors and/or subordinates, is a necessary asset.

Wage Transparency:
The base salary for this role ranges from $140,000 - $180,000 annually. Compensation will be determined by candidate experience, skills, and location.
