POSITION PURPOSE: The Lead Distribution / Pipefitter Mechanic will maintain and repair all equipment, machinery, piping, valves, etc. associated with the Company’s distribution system from the plants to and inside of customer facilities. The Lead Mechanic will also serve as Team Leader for shift Customer Support crew.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, repair, and troubleshoot meters, pneumatic and electric controls equipment and distribution equipment including: piping, valves, traps, and expansion joints.
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on distribution system and inside customer buildings.
- Perform basic structural welding and burning operations that consistently pass X-ray test.
- Read and interpret blueprints (SR drawings).
- Take rotating on-call (beeper) on weekends and holidays.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 6 years’ experience directly related to a proficiency at pipefitting, pipeline repair/maintenance, valve/expansion joint/trap repair/maintenance, and/or steam plant operations and maintenance and steam distribution system equipment.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership and full proficiency in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of Pressure Reducing Stations, building heating systems, domestic hot water systems and associated controls.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handlers and steam coils.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints (SR drawings).
- Thorough understanding of properties of steam.
- Thorough understanding of the repair and principles of operation for: pumping devices, valves, PRVS, traps, piping systems, expansion joints, anchors.
- Preferred:
- Demonstrated leadership and full proficiency in estimating, planning, scheduling and executing Charge Work and underground utility construction and repairs.
- Hold an x-ray welding qualification per ASME Section IX and B31.1 Power Piping codes.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of backhoe, concrete saw, and dump truck.
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
- Requires a valid MA driver's license; minimum Class 3 and safe driving record.
- Preferred: Hold an active Maryland 2nd Grade Stationary Engineers License.
