Our Global Medical Services (GMS) organizational model/structure is aligned around key therapeutic franchises (5 franchises and 20 + Therapeutic Areas) to support high quality medical monitoring, leverage our expertise, strengthen, and build our customer relationships and drive new business. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, General Medicine. General Medicine is a team of 18 globally.
The Senior Medical Director, Global Therapeutic Area Medical Head, Nephrology provides medical and scientific leadership both internally and externally with clients in support of overall company objectives. This includes delivering medical and scientific expertise to clients and colleagues from other departments in the areas of business development, study design/optimization, and overall development strategies.
The Senior Medical Director, Global Therapeutic Area Medical Head, Nephrology is the functional lead of a Therapeutic Area team and shares best practices in the delivery of medical and scientific expertise, lessons learned from projects or opportunities and innovations or scientific developments in Nephrology. This individual provides this guidance in their therapeutic area of focus as well as providing oversight in other therapeutic areas which may be included in their span of responsibility. This individual takes a leadership role in driving growth, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the department by actively contributing to new proposals and overall business development initiatives and serving as a liaison with clients. As required, this individual may perform billable activities to support first time quality execution and to enhance client satisfaction.
Experience / Skills
- Proven and applied expertise in clinical drug development at a senior level position, in the CRO and/or Pharmaceutical industry
- Prior academic/clinical patient care experience within the Nephrology
- Experience in clinical research, as an investigator or sub-investigator; laboratory research in Nephrology related topics preferred but not mandatory.
- Publications in peer-reviewed literature on Nephrology related topics
- Excellent communication skills and ability to easily build respect and gain the confidence of stakeholders, while combining initiative and independence with a flexible approach to issues and problem solving where this is appropriate
- Active listening skills with a focus on understanding specific client challenges
- Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to convey complex medical concepts with clarity and understanding to a diverse audience
- High degree of understanding of client needs, with a client focused approach to work
- Experience in related regulatory requirements and guidelines directing drug development
- Proven ability to work well with small teams, often under significant time constraints
- Established presentation/teaching skills
- A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and varied simultaneous tasks, with enthusiasm and attention to detail

- Maintain continuing medical education and an active role in the medical/scientific professional community through attendance at meetings and conferences, presentations or publications
- Membership and/or in relationships in relevant medical/scientific societies, academic institutions, and other related organizations
- Fluent in English, with excellent writing skills
Education - MD degree from an accredited Medical School, with Board Certification and/or equivalent subspecialty training in the Nephrology
