Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Perioperative Services, the Unit Director, Operating Rooms at Moffitt Long, will be responsible for management, supervision and development of staff in the operative setting (28 ORs), as well as the Pre-operative Unit (ML), Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and the Procedure Room at ML. The incumbent will have direct supervisory oversight of the ML OR Pod Managers and the Unit Director, Perianesthesia Services at Moffitt Long. The incumbent works closely with appropriate departmental chairs, medical directors, and medical staff for the services approved. The OR Unit Director, in collaboration with the Medical Directors of the ML Triad, plans, develops, and directs the patient care programs and related capital projects. In addition, the Unit Director ensures the quality of patient care.
The incumbent serves as a role model for professional nursing practice with twenty-four-hour line management responsibilities for the administration of personnel, fiscal and material resources. The incumbent supports UCSF Medical Center’s overall mission to provide high quality patient care, teaching, and research.
Department Description
The Moffitt Long Operating Room (OR) consists of 28 surgical suites. Our primary focus is tertiary/quaternary surgical care using team based staffing. Our complex surgery uses the most advanced technology, including hybrid suites and robotic surgery. Services include but are not limited to: General Surgery, Urology, Transplant, Cardiac, Vascular, Thoracic, OHNS, OMFS, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- 3-5 years of nursing OR management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in perioperative services
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
- American Heart Association BLS
- Knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the operating room and a member of AORN
- Knowledge of perioperative services in an academic medical center setting
- Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
- Ensures Magnet structure and processes are implemented and maintained by promoting evidence-based practices and collaborative governance
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
- Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines
- Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing or relevant area
- CNOR or certification in nursing administration
License/Certification
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
