CSS seeks to hire one full-time employee to assist with geospatial studies to support marine spatial planning in U.S. coastal waters. This position is located with the Marine Spatial Ecology Division of the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, NOAA, which works to provide scientific products supporting marine spatial planning and ecological and social science studies to support sustainable growth of the Blue Economy. This position will be responsible for supporting projects as a full member of a research team or as an independent researcher under general direction and guidance on project objectives, limits, work plans, and conclusions. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the development of marine spatial planning research and products related to screening and siting of various ocean industry and conservation sectors.
Position Duties
- Development of geodatabases, geoprocessing tools, and derived data products to support high-end spatial analysis, data analytics, and visualization applications to support decision making.
- Organize and input data into databases, maintain accurate detailed records of observations, measurements, and results.
- Set and meet deadlines for completion of work in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to other relevant projects as directed.
Qualifications
- BS or MS Degree plus 2 - 5 years of relevant experience required.
- Background in marine science is preferred and experience supporting NOAA or BOEM is highly desirable.
- Automation of data preparation, workflows, and spatial processing.
- Proficient in the methods, practices, and techniques of advanced spatial modeling, including raster and vector analysis and cartography.
- Proficient with ArcMap 10.X, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online.
