The argenx Business Development team operates at the intersection between our discovery, development and business teams and other supporting functions to identify, source and execute on opportunities to collaborate, partner, license, acquire and divest assets to support the long-term strategy of argenx. It has a unique position to help drive our ambition to bring innovations to patients in need by supporting our teams in achieving their objectives through expertise and excellence in deal execution, negotiation, contracting and stakeholder management.
Skills and Competencies:
As Senior Director, Business Development you have a natural ability to build a network of stakeholders both internally and externally and deliver a project or deal from beginning-to-end. You have an eye for detail and care not just about the end result but also the way in which the results are delivered. Key competencies for the Senior Director, Business Development include:
- Able to identify and build relationships with tech transfer offices, biotech and pharma business development teams and academic research groups to access innovative science.
- Able to prepare and present BD opportunities and recommendations in a comprehensive and focused way, identifying key considerations from details, and efficiently coordinating and driving due diligence.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to independently lead deal processes and stakeholder management to drive internal decision making.
- Able to translate diligence take aways into deal structure and valuation proposals, prepare negotiation positions and strategy.
- Able to independently lead and deliver a BD deal, identifying and addressing key value drivers and risks and mitigants.
- Drive and deliver the documentation (term sheet, contract) workstream in close cooperation with Legal and IP stakeholders.
- Take alliance management responsibility and support existing alliances as needed, proactively identify and resolve any issues together with alliance management and other stakeholders.
- Able to represent argenx and our corporate values to external stakeholders and existing partners.
- Proven ability to mentor junior BD team members and actively engage in team building.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 12-15 years’ experience with 8 years in Business Development.
- Business development (in particular strategic alliances) and license contracting.
- Building business cases from science (asset valuation experience considered an advantage but not essential).
- Deal execution and negotiation experience.
- Project management.
- Innovation management.
- Supporting C-level management decision making.
- Entrepreneurial instincts and creative problem-solving ability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team spirit – ability to build relationships across internal and external stakeholders with diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proactive self-starter and multi-tasker with a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Master’s degree in science and or business disciplines or MBA.
- Fluent with Microsoft Office and other business-specific software.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Ability to lead C-level decision making, also beyond BD in line with corporate objectives.
- Ability to independently lead multiple BD deals from beginning to end in parallel and supports the portfolio management of BD activities.
- Set priorities to deliver on the OGSM goals.
- Be a go-to person within argenx for BD activities and has an established network of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Ability to train, develop and lead more junior members of the team and jointly works towards objectives and deliverables.
