Position Summary
Data Science is a driver of significant competitive advantage for Kemper and is critical to the organization’s success. The Kemper Auto team has an immediate need for a talented Principal Data Scientist. This individual is responsible for directing the strategic development and solutioning in cross functional teams with respect to leveraging data science capabilities to solve various business problems. The Principal Data Scientist will also provide coaching and mentoring to junior analysts in the data scientist community.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leads cross functional discussion with respect to leveraging Data Science capabilities to solve various business problems.
- Presents analytical solutions to external business partners and senior leadership teams.
- Manage project scope, expectations, and timeline and communicate project progress and challenges to external business partners and senior leadership team.
- Leads Data Science model peer reviews with other DS groups and business partners. Provides recommendations for potential enhancements.
- Provides coaching, mentoring to junior team members, including lead training sessions on statistical modeling and AI/ML technique.
Position Qualifications:
- Graduate Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM fields with 10+ years’ experience in insurance industry or related industry in a data science/predictive environment.
- PhD in Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM fields preferred with 8+ years’ experience in insurance industry or related industry in a data science/predictive environment.
- At least 10 years of firsthand experience with Statistical Modeling and various AI/ML platforms.
- This position is a remote role and can work from a US based home.
The range for this position is $130,800 to $225,600. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and Kemper benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
