General Manager
This position requires the ability to manage and grow a high-volume HVAC service provider in both revenue and profitability. Maintaining and developing customer relations, excellent hiring skills, and ongoing training for the department along with positive motivational skills are essential. Development of procedures and goals, in line with the adherence to company policy and mission of the company is expected. A great working relationship with colleagues and other managers, owners, and associates with an upbeat team spirit is sought and reciprocated.
Essential Job Functions
- Creating, communicating, and implementing the organization’s vision, mission, and overall direction. Making sure that the direction is communicated on a level that allows every employee to feel as if they are part of something bigger than themselves and that their role is strategically important to the organization.
- Leading managers of multiple business layers of a very successful HVAC organization including Retail, Commercial, and New Construction.
- Help formulate and implement the strategic plan for the company and work with all levels of the organization to execute.
- Maintaining awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments, and standards.
- Lead the company through change including opening new lines of business and forging into new markets.
- Evaluate the success of the organization using a set of strategically important measures to determine the ongoing success - or lack thereof - that the organization is experiencing.
- Manage and develop the leadership staff, which includes hiring, terminating, and disciplining employees, scheduling employees, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, counseling employees, evaluating performance, and directing work assignments to ensure effective use of resources and customer satisfaction.
- With the participation of the executive team, meets regularly with senior company leadership to ensure that decisions the organization needs are well-thought-out and timely.
- Evaluates workload in a way that best utilizes manpower and maximizes profits.
- Ensure all processes and procedures are followed.
- Observes all safety and company rules and regulations in the performance of duties.
- Full financial responsibility for the organization.
- Attend to customer escalation issues/satisfaction.
- Identify and communicate where improvements can be utilized.
- Ensure SLAs are managed and kept above the acceptable levels.
- Delivery of goals and metrics for the assigned group and ensure company goals are met monthly.
- Review payroll records to ensure that technicians are paid properly.
- Oversee facility and equipment maintenance, ensuring that assets are protected and controlled.
- Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Generate reports and measures of departmental operations as well as records all inventory, tools, and vehicles and reviews reports with management.
- Assist the dispatching operation to ensure appropriate technician selection for the type of service.
- Resolve customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Ensure that materials and equipment are ordered and dispensed for scheduled jobs.
- Instruct technicians on proper use of materials and quality workmanship.
- Maintain ongoing training of technicians.
- Maintain less than 5 days average per call, plan, and grow staff levels to support this level of volume and growth, in addition develop procedures to manage within these expectations.
- Quality assurance on all work performed at customer facilities.
- New team member and new local customer onboarding.
- Ensures that employees have proper tools for the job and that they are properly maintained.
- Monitors preventive maintenance of vehicles to ensure proper operation.
- Evaluates staff to determine training requirements. Provides on-the-job training and support to employees.
Successful candidate must be able to pass a drug test, background screening, and possess a clean driving record.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience performing in a management role in an HVAC service business or related services company.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Understanding of the principles of quality management with respect to effective communication.
- Experience with management and conflict resolution.
- Level personality with a drive for success.
- Ability to focus on desired results.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to a very fast-paced environment and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Deliver a high level of customer service on a consistent basis.
- Ability to motivate a team and achieve buy-in on company initiatives.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
