A premier residential landscape construction company is seeking a top-notch Financial Controller to oversee and drive the financial and administrative operations. Key Responsibilities:
Operational Financial Management:
- Oversee operational information to manage the business.
- Develop and maintain job costing and percent-of-completion accounting.
- Collaborate with operations management on cost performance.
- Support financial management in purchasing, fleet, and administrative expenses.
- Lead and mentor the finance and admin team. Provide staff training for competence and performance.
Financial Management:
- Oversee and establish effective internal control systems for all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Manage compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings. Liaise with external auditors for the annual audit.
- Conduct account reconciliations, variance analyses, and regular audits for policy compliance.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and monitor cash flow and liquidity.
- Monitor budget variances and recommend cost control improvements.
- Collaborate with department heads on budgets and forecasts.
- Develop financial models for budgeting and planning.
Strategic Planning:
- Provide financial analysis for strategic decisions.
- Participate in long-term financial planning.
- Evaluate financial performance against plans and forecasts.
- Support local and corporate financial management communication.
- Implement procedures to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
- Support capital budgeting and management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA is a plus.
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, with 3-5 years in a controller role.
- Experience in the construction industry, particularly residential landscape construction, is highly desirable.
- Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and dependability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Costpoint, Timberline) is a plus.
- Knowledge of payroll tax regulations in California.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
