Job Summary: Vice President, Engineering
As Vice President of Engineering, you will lead the technology strategy and operations of our digital news platform. You will help develop and execute the company's technology vision, aligning it with the overall business strategy. You will identify and evaluate emerging technologies that can enhance our content delivery, user experience, and operational efficiency. You will collaborate with executive leadership to define the long-term technology roadmap.
You will lead our growing engineering team, providing technical leadership and mentorship. You will work closely with editorial, product, consumer growth, and our advertising teams to deliver technology solutions that move the Minnesota Star Tribune closer to our goal of being a modern digital media company.
A key part of your role will be overseeing the development, evolution, maintenance, security, and scalability of the company's technology infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance. Technology evolves quickly, and you will ensure that our platforms and products evolve too.
You will help manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions and return on investment. You will manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers, ensuring the Star Tribune is getting value for money. You will work with our legal department to ensure our platforms and products are safe, secure, and in compliance with relevant laws and best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in technology leadership roles.
- A demonstrated track record of leading development and deployment of digital products at scale.
- Strong understanding of web technologies, content management systems (CMS), mobile development, and cloud infrastructure.
- Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity, data protection, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on when necessary.
- Passion for journalism and a commitment to the values of high-quality, independent reporting.
