The Billing Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the firm’s Billing team, including personnel management, workflow coordination, and team growth and development. The Billing Manager acts as an information and quality control manager for the group. The successful candidate is highly knowledgeable about legal accounting processes and has a broad understanding of Aderant or another legal billing application and can utilize the system capabilities to implement billing solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides "holistic" updates about billing to Upper Management.
- Review and/or prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports as required.
- Reviews and monitors Billing transactions and activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and conformance to company policies.
- Develops strategies and tactics to optimize workflow.
- Works with attorneys and Legal support to design and develop invoicing to meet client needs and guidelines.
- Addresses and responds to customer inquiries about billing, providing a high level of customer service.
- Acts as a liaison and escalation point between the Legal team, Billing team and other Troutman divisions.
- Acts as departmental representative at various meetings.
- Monitors timekeeping policies and procedures to ensure client guidelines are followed.
- Oversees the Billing process and ensures successful monthly close cycle.
- Recruits and hires qualified staff; responsible for assuring the proper staffing.
- Supervises and monitors Billing staff.
- Manages, develops, and advocates for the Billing team; identifies areas of opportunity for individual team member’s development and works with leadership and the team trainer to train and develop team members.
- Holds regular One-on-One and departmental meetings with team members.
- Conducts mentoring/development discussions with direct reports.
- Maintains team expectations to ensure that they are understood by each team member and monitors them for compliance; evaluates direct report’s performance.
- Addresses personnel issues as needed and in a timely manner.
- Utilizes technology resources to maximize efficiency while maintaining the highest level of professionalism.
- Exercises considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with both attorneys and staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work and deliver in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
- Highly knowledgeable in operational strategies/business models for Billing.
- Highly knowledgeable in Billing application functionality/capabilities.
- Understands various software systems applicable to law firm billing, cash application, and collection functions.
- Ability to lead a team, focusing on personnel and process improvement.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Capable of analyzing complex problems and recommending and/or implementing solutions.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree; any combination of training, skills, and experience to perform the core responsibilities of the position may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience as a manager of a large team in a high-volume environment, with a track record of improved performance.
- Experience in a law firm is preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Billing preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00
