The Regional Medical Lead, Director level, will cover the Northcentral region and will serve as a key field-based scientific resource for healthcare providers, industry partners, and internal colleagues with a primary focus on AI-based quantitative coronary plaque analysis.
This role works collaboratively with nearly all functional groups at HeartFlow, including Clinical, Professional Education, Market Access, Technology, and Commercial. Internally, this role is the clinical subject matter expert regarding coronary artery disease diagnosis and management, and HeartFlow products, ensuring product clinical messaging, clinical data development, and physician education activities are aligned to HeartFlow’s business priorities. Specifically, some key internal activities of the Regional Medical Lead include sharing in field market insights to inform education and clinical strategy, supporting the development of educational content and training, and facilitating clinical evidence dissemination cross-functionally. Externally, the Regional Medical Lead represents HeartFlow as a key scientific resource for HCPs and other stakeholders, identifies and establishes professional relationships with KOLs, and provides scientific guidance and support to educational faculty.
This ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and exhibits excellent facilitation and communication skills (both oral and written). Prior experience in a cardiovascular field medical role with deep understanding and thought leader relationships within the preventive cardiology and lipid management spaces is required. Candidates must be comfortable with travel and supporting a large geography.
Job Responsibilities:
- Establish and foster professional relationships with national and regional Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in lipid management and preventive cardiology and with internal business partners.
- Support the identification and training of educational faculty.
- Serve as a key HeartFlow scientific resource in the field, supporting HCP education including advanced data and case reviews.
- Gather feedback and insights from KOLs and physician advisors to better inform HeartFlow’s overall strategic direction.
- Identify and support regional education opportunities.
- In collaboration with the Clinical team at HeartFlow, facilitate initial discussions, intake, and evaluation of physician-initiated research proposals, including ensuring timely communication between requestor and company.
- Understand and effectively communicate current scientific knowledge, maintaining expertise through keeping up to date with publications and attendance of national and local congresses.
- Monitor major meetings for abstract deadlines and work with investigators of HeartFlow sponsored research to drive podium presence in support of corporate communication strategies and plan.
- Support field and internal training needs as a clinical expert.
Skills Needed:
- Coronary artery disease and lipid management expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend, synthesize and communicate large amounts of scientific content in a clear, concise fashion.
- Significant experience and success in self-managing priorities and multitasking projects.
- Building relationships with KOLs.
- Educating HCPs and coaching educational faculty.
- Applying critical thinking to scientific and clinical research challenges.
- Establishing trust and credibility within the HCP community including primary care providers, advanced practice providers, cardiologists, and radiologists.
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a start-up environment.
Educational Requirements & Work Experience:
- Advanced clinical or scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD/DO, MS, PA, ARNP) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of Cardiovascular experience, experience in lipid management ideal.
- Experience in pharma, biotech, and/or medical devices, ideally as a medical science liaison (MSL).
- Significant direct experience communicating complex scientific information in a manner that meets the needs of external healthcare practitioners and internally at all levels of the organization.
- Advanced presentation and computer skills with expertise in literature identification and evaluation.
Significant travel (~50% of time) both by automobile and air.
This position has an estimated base salary of $180,000 - $220,000, a cash bonus, and stock options. HeartFlow is a mature start-up, pre-IPO market place leader, changing the paradigm in Coronary Artery Disease Diagnostics.
