Summary:
Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. Prepares for and assists the radiologist in completion of intricate radiographic procedures including preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Performs patient assessments and provides patient care. Evaluates the appropriateness of examination and assesses the quality of radiographic images.
Hours: Wed & Fri - 12 hrs. Thurs - 10 hours
*This position qualifies for a $15,000 commitment incentive which will be paid over a three (3) year work commitment. Equal installments will be paid after each six (6) months of work completed.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology, adheres to Departmental Protocols and Policy and Procedures of UNC Healthcare System, obtains RT(R) credentials and maintains Active Status using technical knowledge to assist in troubleshooting work unit problems.
- Ensures that patient demographic, emulsion markers, and examination requests are correct, critiques, orients and saves all pertinent images, transmits QA-ed images to PACS, ensures that all images reach PACS, documents completion and/or cancellation of all procedures in RIS, maintaining image management equipment.
- Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data.
- Performs work in a timely manner, produces quality radiographic images consistently, reviews radiographic orders and images ensuring accuracy of information, and maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Uses RIS, CIS, PACS and SMS effectively to access information and document status of procedures, modifies orders for appropriateness, completes exams in RIS System, QC's and transmits information to PACS.
- Verifies patient identity, obtains relevant patient history, verifies pregnancy status before administering ionizing radiation, and assesses patients' physical condition to develop an action plan for performing examinations.
Other Information
Education Requirements:
- Associate's degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program. If degree is not yet complete, candidates may be selected contingent on completing a degree program within 90 days of hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:- Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry eligible and must become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:- No prior experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:- Knowledgeable of radiation protection and safety, infection control, TB and standard precautions.
