This Senior Sales Engineering position is a customer-facing role focused on specific Service Provider & CLEC accounts. This role requires a strong knowledge of Ciena's product line, including optical, Ethernet, IP, and XGS-PON technologies. By building close consultative relationships with the customer, and developing a strong knowledge of Ciena's products, you will design and quote networks that best suit the customer's needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work as part of a sales team to develop and execute customer engagement plans
- Perform network and applications engineering for multiple Ciena products
- Consult with potential and current customers on application of Ciena products for next generation architectures
- Complete complex network designs for customer application of Ciena networking products
- Extensive use of Ciena Network design and modeling tools
- Prepare quotations and assist in proposal preparation for Ciena products
- Provide product and technical expertise to support Sales efforts of Ciena products
- Prepare and deliver complex design and applications presentations
- Analyze and evaluate the customer's technical requirements, propose network architecture solutions, and respond to RFI/ RFPs and other customer requests
- Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Technical expertise in data networking including understanding of L3 IP Routing, L2 Ethernet Switching and other data networking protocols
- Detailed technical knowledge of fiber optic transmission systems including OTN, DWDM, coherent, and ROADM technologies
- Understanding of access technologies, specifically passive optical networks (PON)
- Basic understanding of telecommunication networks, network management, & SDN (MDSO / NFV)
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Business acumen, including an understanding of telecommunication company's sales processes
- Experience with generation of quotes, proposals, and bills of material
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and operate with minimal supervision
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow through to resolve problems
PREFERRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Motivated technical individual that desires to work on application of advanced IP, Ethernet, and Optical architectures
- Proficiency in leading technical sales activities
- Ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop custom solutions
- Ability to develop customer relationships and work well with customers
- Ability to work well within a team
- Proficient in use of network design and modeling tools
- Knowledge of Ciena products and solutions, including their features, benefits, and applications
- Ability to manipulate large data sets and perform analysis in Excel
- Hands on experience commissioning and operating Ciena products
LOCATION
- This position will cover US accounts based in the Northeast. Residency in this area is a plus, but not required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Technical Degree; BSEE or relevant experience. Relevant certifications (CCNA, OC-P, etc.) are a plus
- 5+ years telecommunication industry experience
- Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team
Compensation and Benefits
The annual pay range for this position is $143,500 - $229,600 USD
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
