Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Optical Engineer to join our DUV Excimer Laser team in San Diego, CA. This position will primarily be responsible for specifying, designing, developing and testing optical modules for these powerful lasers. In addition, this role interacts with mechanical engineering, hardware, and software design teams to assist in the overall development of the laser systems. The successful candidate may serve as the primary technical interface for outsourced optical design projects, where regular tasks include specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking optical system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures, and evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation. Engineering analysis, troubleshooting and effective communication are key aspects of this role.
Role and Responsibilities
Assumes engineering responsibility for DUV Excimer laser subsystem/module/component design from concept through manufacturing transfer and ramp.
- Performs development activities using the ASML Product Generation Process including requirements definition, engineering reviews, risk evaluations, verification testing, and documentation.
- Participates in project planning, including key deliverables, timeline, and budget with tracking of actions and alignment of schedules.
- Generates optical module or system concepts to meet product requirements.
- Performs detailed optical design, optical component layout, and ray tracing for new or improved optical subsystems.
- Performs optical tolerance analysis at system and subsystem level.
- Validates concepts through breadboard builds, testing and analysis.
- Develops test plans, creates test procedures, performs tests and data reduction and evaluates test data.
- Troubleshoots and analyzes failures or performance gaps in existing systems, working with Reliability and Test Engineers to plan and conduct investigations and develop solution proposals.
- Assembles and tests opto-mechanical and electro-optic prototypes.
- Works with Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers to drive full documentation of designs including Bill of Materials, drawings, and procedures.
- Interfaces with manufacturing engineering to develop and implement designs that improve manufacturability.
- Interfaces with purchasing to obtain prototype components for use in assemblies.
- Interfaces with manufacturing personnel to coordinate the build of pilot production assemblies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
