The Development Director is a member of the fundraising team that engages in strategic planning and development of major and principal gift needs for the School of Law focusing on Major Gifts ($100,000 gifts and above). The Development Director prepares and maintains a plan of funding priorities that help guide and focus fundraising efforts in their area; with a focus on the School of Law. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director of the School of Law.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Meets or exceeds all established fundraising goals for applicable divisions.
- Identifies prospective donors and funding sources and develops cultivation and solicitation plans.
- Solicit donors/alumni/businesses/friends for $100,000 and above including planned giving.
- Ensures regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgment of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, gift-in-kind documentation (when appropriate), visiting, and providing regular information on the progress. Aligning efforts and process with Digital Engagement team.
- Determines fundable projects and packages them appropriately for consideration by donors.
- Prepares annual work plan with measurable objectives and courses of action for all relevant activities.
- Documents all contacts, communications, visits, and other appropriate details and places pertinent information in the applicable database.
- Formulates fundraising projections quarterly at minimum.
- Works with faculty and/or staff for their fundraising priority at the major gift level.
- Supports faculty and/or staff (for example: Department Chairs or Director of Art Museum) at events.
- Travels with appropriate faculty and/or staff to cultivate and solicit donors.
- Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements and monitors controls.
- Maintains confidentiality at the highest and upmost level.
- Attends School of Law/Development-related events, meetings and activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Knowledge of business and management principles.
- Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
- Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
- Understanding of charitable vehicles as well as the donor pipeline.
- Higher education administration understanding.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
