St Catherine of Siena Hospital, Smithtown, New York
St Catherine of Siena Hospital is one of six hospitals in Catholic Health providing medical care to its community on Long Island, New York and is currently seeking an internal medicine residency program director to start a new training program.
The Internal Medicine Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents/fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas and in conformance with Catholic Health policies and procedures. The support of the Department of Graduate Medical Education and the resources available will provide the foundation to the Program director to develop a quality-training program in internal medicine.
Selected duties may be delegated to faculty or training program administrators, however, the Program Director will participate as a voting member on the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and will be responsible to ensure that all ACGME requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Program director duties include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program
- Review, update, and revise didactic and clinical educational curricula as needed
- Approve the selection of faculty and maintain an accurate current list of core (“key”) faculty for accreditation purposes
- Complete an annual program evaluation and monitor action plans through completion
- Adopt appropriate evaluation tools and ensure evaluations of residents by faculty are completed on a timely basis
- Provide each resident with documented, semiannual, competency-based evaluations of performance meeting with each individual trainee and providing mentorship and support
- Complete a final summative evaluation that also documents the resident’s performance during the final period of education, and verify that the resident has demonstrated sufficient competence to enter practice without direct supervision
Responsibilities include:
- Supervising, overseeing and teaching medical students, interns, and residents rotating through the department and division
- Maintaining high standards and quality of care to the patients cared for
- Promoting high quality, cost effective care based on the best medical evidence
- Participating in data collection to assess patient care and satisfaction studies
- Making best efforts to keep current with developments in pediatrics, medical management and related areas through CME programs, medical literature review and medical staff conferences
