Job Description
This role is part of a “best in class” multi-disciplinary, international team (Risk Advisory & Assurance Services) responsible for adding value and continuously improving operations across the Corporation by providing the Board of Directors and Senior Management with risk-based independent assurance, advice and insight.
In particular, the role is responsible for overseeing all operating company activities across the maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. This includes the responsibility for evaluating compliance with the safety management system as well as evaluating and identifying best practices opportunities in the HESS space.
Essential Functions:
- Audit and Advisory activities:
- Leads a 29 FTE internal audit team across nine brands
- Develop the annual Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) audit plan
- Oversee internal “International safety management” (ISM) audits across the brands, including facilitating root cause analysis and management action plan development.
- Oversee newbuild assessments of the ships ISM prior to ship delivery
- Oversee shore based HESS audits of the companies port operations, tour facilities and training facilities
- Oversee HESS based process, system and organizational design reviews across the brands to identify best practice “insights”
- To assess and monitor (follow-up on), at least quarterly, on management’s progress in implementing agreed upon opportunities, including:
- Management action plans for SMS audits
- Management action plans for shore based audits and cross brand insight reviews
- Management action plans that originate from HESS investigations.
- Oversee staff training and development, including maintain the global quality control program
- Report to the Chief Audit Officer on the following:
- Day to day HESS audit activities
- The annual HESS project plan
- The scope, objectives and status of the audits
- Audit results
- Audit trends by HESS discipline
- Action taken by management to remediate findings or enhance the effectiveness or efficiencies of operations
- Report to the Board on the following:
- The annual audit plan
- Audit results
- Audit (and related trends) by HESS discipline
- On the implementation status of management action plans
- To develop an effective working relationship with Senior Executive brand HESS Management brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO and the Chair of the HESS Committees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Maritime related field of study; Master’s or Deck Officer’s License, Chief Engineer or Engineer Officer’s license, or any equivalent combination of relevant Maritime Health, Environmental, Safety and Security related disciplines.
- 10 years of maritime experience

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
The range for this role’s base salary is $200,000 - $240,000. Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
