About The Team
The Hub Cloud Services (HCS) team handles billions of events through our system daily and millions of commands to users’ homes. We are responsible for processing commands and events so quickly that it’s indistinguishable to users whether automation runs in the cloud or locally on their local network. In addition to building and enhancing our event/command pipelines, we own and control the APIs central to our hub and partner hubs. The hub is the backbone of many modern smart homes, making our team’s APIs and tools central for numerous teams at SmartThings.
Key Responsibilities
This position is based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Demonstrate both people management and software development leadership
- Contribute to strategic planning for the cloud engineering teams
- Lead the team through feature development of mission critical high volume services
- Lead projects across technology teams
- Interact with on site and global teams
- Encourage innovation, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork self-organization, and diversity
- Manage and mentor engineers, meeting with team members to provide frequent feedback, and also evaluate performance
- Offer perspective that drives change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems
- Provide strategic direction that aligns with overall company goals
- Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years experience in software development
- 3+ years of experience leading software teams and managing performance
- Comfortable managing team members with different skill sets and areas of focus.
- Experience partnering effectively across teams to manage scope, deliverables, and direct stakeholders
- Experience effectively communicating context to the team(s) and managing other internal stakeholders.
- Experience developing web services and cloud technologies at scale
- Understanding of large scale computing solutions, including software design and development, database architectures, cloud computing deployments, security, and performance tuning.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field
- Ability to travel up to 10-15%

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Minneapolis is expected to be between $137,778 and $206,667. Additionally, this role is eligible for a 20% annual target bonus potential, depending on company and individual performance.
