Position Summary:
The EHS Multi-Site Leader is responsible for management and performance of the Environmental, Health, and Safety function for the designated sites. The individual leads the network of EHS associates across sites in the business unit in order track and measure performance, assess capability levels and identify common areas of EHS risks that can be managed across sites through program implementation. They provide ongoing support to site EHS associates to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulation across sites in the Business Unit portfolio. The EHS Multi-Site Leader is a key advisor for senior operations leadership and EHS Central leadership for the business unit, ensuring that EHS aspects are considered in the business’s operations strategy (ex. Architecture / process changes). Willing and able to uphold BD Values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides oversight to EHS resourcing to site level based on the nature of operations; and focuses on capability building across site level EHS associates in the network. (Includes participation in the recruitment and hiring of site level EHS)
- Mentors sites and drives professional development pathways. Onboards new EHS associates and partners with Central EHS to ensure all system accesses and training are provided. Provides training to sites and leadership through Leaders as Teachers model.
- Main point of contact to the sites. Engages appropriate stakeholders of the organization to ensure effective support and resourcing for the sites and Business Unit.
- Effectively communicates EHS performance and path forward to BU Operations leaders; engages BU operations LTs on EHS matters to ensure a strong culture of associate safety and environmental management. Owns the execution of the Central EHS strategy for designated sites Participation in applicable Leadership Teams. Comprehends the operations strategy for aligned BUs and able to implement a roadmap to support operations.
- Support site EHS coverage when there are openings in their team.
- Provides guidance to sites regarding injury/incident investigations, proper root cause analysis, safety alerts write-ups including distribution and ensures corrective actions being address across their network of sites.
- Obtains input from sites and relays feedback regarding the development and implementation of Central EHS Program and standard reviews. Leads the implementation of policies/programs with site EHS staff. Supports site project and program planning utilizing risk-based prioritization. Collaborates with Central EHS staff on the development of policies, goals, and programs (within specific expertise).
- Establishes mechanisms to periodically review objectives and metrics to ensure alignment of EH&S strategies with business needs. Verifies accuracy of site reported metrics and indicators.
- Provides operational verification of high-risk action closure. Coaches site and ensures sites are always audit-ready.
- Engages or leads in applicable project teams in support of both BDX EHS and site network strategy.
- Conducts site visits across the network to provide coaching/training on EHS capability building; and to support and advise sites in the event of significant changes (i.e., construction / process changes).
- Advises sites in the BU portfolio in the event of government agency inspections (i.e., OSHA or EPA) and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Acts as a liaison between the site and Central EHS and Legal when correspondence is needed with government agencies.
- Keeps abreast of changes to EHS that may impact BU/site operations; Initiates changes to practices and procedures to support compliance requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to use influence skills to successfully develop and implement effective safety and environmental programs which engage all sites across the portfolio.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to exercise judgment and appropriately communicate and manage during crisis situations if they are to arise.
- Executes responsibilities with a degree of flexibility with a dotted line to Central EHS Leadership, and actively participates and drives EHS goals and objectives.
- Engages and gains the support of associates in various positions of responsibility and in various functions within BD worldwide. This includes associates in these functions who occupy positions of authority that is equal to, greater than or less than the incumbent. Incumbent must clearly communicate project plans and resource requirements to gain the support of these individuals.
- Demonstrates understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws and the ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and environmental requirements.
- Demonstrates effective skills in the areas of counseling, coaching, and influencing.
- Performs other duties as required to support the needs of the business unit/sites.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to travel (~25-40%)
- Experience with applicable GMP, ISO regulations, and knowledge of federal and state environmental and occupational safety and health regulations (EPA, OSHA, NFPA).
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization, both internal and external.
- Strong leadership competencies including managing change, teambuilding, servant leadership and talent development.
- Works effectively in a team environment.
- Solid computer skills including MS Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Medical device products manufacturing industry experience preferred.
- Experience monitoring and managing sustainability initiatives.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Occupational Health & Safety or related degree.
- Have or are willing to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other BCSP credential preferred to ensure continuing education of current EH&S trends and knowledge.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety programs either as an EHS Professional or in a Production Environment.
- Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that supports a business strategy.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use sight, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls, and office equipment. The employee frequently is required to verbally communicate with other associates. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in an office environment, laboratory, or cleanroom. While performing the duties of this job, the associate must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) required to perform this job safely. Candidate must be able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

Salary Range Information:
$133,800.00 - $220,800.00 USD Annual
