Senior Software Release Engineer, RoadRunner
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center.
WHY WE'RE HERE
The Vehicle Autonomy (Robotics) team at Anduril develops aerial and ground-based robotic systems. The team is responsible for taking products like Roadrunner, Ghost, Anvil, and our Sentry Tower from paper sketches to operational systems. We work in close coordination with specialist teams like Perception, Autonomy, and Manufacturing to solve some of the hardest problems facing our customers. We are looking for software engineers, roboticists, and front-end and mobile developers who are excited about creating a powerful robotics platform that can be tasked and viewed in real-time through a variety of interfaces.
We are looking to bring on a SW Release and Quality Engineer to define and manage major releases aligned with program milestones to deliver production quality software releases for families-of-systems (aircraft, ground systems, and support elements) across multiple product variants. You will work closely with a team of co-developers that will develop processes & tools that allows Anduril to develop and release safety and mission critical systems quickly and reliably. A strong SW Release and Quality engineer will have a proven track record of managing the deployment of production software, interacting with CI/CD pipelines, has strong coding skills, and maintains a background in applying automated test coverage infrastructure both on-device and in the cloud.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the software solutions that are deployed to customers for autonomous systems.
- Implement and manage automated testing and deployment processes in an established continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) environment to ensure a release pipeline infrastructure that is gated on automated tests with high code coverage.
- Work with other software developers to improve their unit and regression test coverage.
- Define and develop software in the loop (SITL) and hardware in the loop (HITL) tests to validate system level performance and assure system quality.
- Review and approve pull requests (PRs) across the full family of systems.
- Manage and coordinate the deployment of development releases to test and evaluation teams for flight test validation in coordination with configuration management teams.
- Manage and coordinate the deployment of production releases to flight test, manufacturing, and operations teams in customer environments in coordination with configuration management teams.
- Plan, organize, delegate, and maintain official release notes.
- Collaborate with program management on communicating program increment software features and specifications to customer stakeholders before and during development sprints.
- Plan, organize, delegate and maintain official software engineering change requests to deliver to customer decision makers before deploying an official release.
- Plan, organize, delegate and maintain official software update procedures.
- Develop processes and tools to inspect and maintain system configuration sets.
- Monitor and enhance system reliability, performance, and security through automation and monitoring of metrics collected from SITL, HITL, flight test, and deployed operations.
- Triage issues, root cause failures, and coordinate next-steps with product-centric and platform-wide developers.
- Travel up to 30% time to flight test sites to help integrate and test major feature updates.
- Lead major release and quality assurance efforts, mentoring other developers, collaborating with other leads, and providing guidance on decision making in a high pace mission critical environment.
- Support the team in maintaining rapid development while in parallel improving our processes, standards, testing infrastructure, and data-driven empirical evidence of end-to-end system performance.
- Build out dashboards to demonstrate system performance, system maintenance and system improvements over time.
- Utilize git and CI automations to execute nightly and automated builds and system checks, reacting and delegating fixes as issues are uncovered.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Proficiency in C++, Rust, and/or Go.
- Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting.
- Desire to lead and mentor other developers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and desire to interact with customers and company leadership.
- Must be eligible to obtain and hold a US DoD Security Clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Nix/NixOS.
- Proven experience in a DevOps or test engineering role, demonstrating leadership and innovation.
- Experience implementing automated testing frameworks in software-in-the-loop (SITL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environments.
- Experience in Agile methodologies.
- Experience with Unix/Linux tools for performance analysis and debugging problems (valgrind, perf, etc).
- Solid understanding of systems software (kernel, device drivers, system calls).
- Experience working with networked sensor modules via Ethernet/CAN/Serial and using interface specifications or protocols to collect and analyze data.
