Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, specializing in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to over 50 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision, and behavioral health. Job Description
The Ultrasound Technologist uses machines that direct sound waves into the human body to create echo-mapped pictures of internal organs. The Ultrasound Tech will assist the provider in determining the gestational age, expected date of delivery, and stage of development.
Essential Functions
- Analyze captured images, identifying variations between healthy and abnormal areas, and provide reports to the physician.
- Ensure the images produced are clear for diagnosis and adjust the equipment as necessary.
- Help patients prepare for procedures by explaining the process and preparing the skin surface with gel.
- Perform approximately 10 ultrasounds per day, including at least 50% anatomy scans.
- Communicate effectively with patients to maintain comfort during examinations.
- Possess knowledge of normal human anatomy, anatomical variations, and abnormal conditions.
- Promote quality patient care through proper scanning techniques and optimal equipment settings.
- Interact effectively with radiologists by describing clinical histories and modifying scan protocols as directed.
- Exhibit a cooperative attitude and excellent communication skills to explain procedures and elicit patient cooperation.
- Maintain daily upkeep of ultrasound machines and report malfunctions to the Practice Manager.
- Ensure cleanliness of the assigned area.
- Respond to questions from associates, physicians, and patients, providing factual information according to clinic guidelines.
- Participate in the quality assurance program, meeting with the Director of Ultrasound monthly.
- Maintain adequate levels of medical supplies for ultrasound testing.
- Store videotapes and sonograms appropriately.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines to prevent unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Adhere to established Legacy policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Implement job responsibilities consistent with Legacy’s Mission and Code of Ethics.

- Demonstrate knowledge of techniques and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
- Ensure a safe environment by implementing appropriate control measures.
- Attend annual education programs.
Education & Training Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent.
- Completion of clinical and classroom programs in accordance with the eligibility requirements of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers.
- Maintain good standing with the certifying body.
- Meet all continuing education requirements to maintain certification by the American Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Work Experience Requirements
- At least 2 years of obstetric/fetal ultrasound experience required.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Above-average organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- This job requires access to confidential information, requiring discretion and secure management.
- Bilingual English and Spanish speaking preferred.
- Ability to meet Legacy Community Health’s EPIC proficiency requirements.
