Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Senior Nutrition Director or a higher-level administrator, operates and manages a Senior Nutrition Program with little on site supervision. This supervisory position involves responsibility for efficient distribution and serving of meals to seniors. Supervises a team of Food Service helpers, drivers and volunteer workers. Maintains records and reports as required by The Salvation Army and San Diego County, attends meetings as required, publicizes programs and services.
Essential Functions
- Develop and supervise the Senior Nutrition meal service at site and oversee preparation and service of meals for congregant clients.
- Supervise and train volunteers and employees as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to banking, budgeting, menu planning, meal programming, purchasing and provide monthly reports to administration.
- Maintain inventory of all equipment at site.
- Attend Site Manager's monthly meetings.
- Complete in-service training.
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of all site vehicles.
- When applicable, coordinate site activities with Corps Officer to include scheduling of room space and other needs.
- Forecast and plan the order of meals and purchase of equipment, food items and related supplies. Estimates and orders appropriate quantities of food items and supplies.
- Receives, inspects and properly stores delivered food items and other materials.
- Oversees and participates in cleaning equipment and works areas to meet cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Participates in menu planning.
- Plans, organizes and assists in any type of celebration or special activity held at site.
- Regularly interacts with seniors, other employees and members of the public.
- Works with Director to promote Senior Nutrition program to seniors in the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent, plus two years of supervisory experience in a related field.
- Experience working with the elderly preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English.
- Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
- Have or be able to obtain a Food Service Certificate and must be able to understand and follow all Health Food Codes.
- Before hire, submit a copy of DMV driving record with less than two (2) violations (moving or accident) in the last twelve months. Before hire, must pass Fleet Test of The Salvation Army. Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Program, annually, is required. May not obtain more than two (2) violations, moving or accident, in one year. Salvation Army Fleet Policy dictates those persons no longer meeting the qualifications of this position if more than (2) violations in a 12-month period accrue to their DMV Driving Record will be terminated.
