Job Overview:
This position performs complex compliance research and regulatory analysis in order to monitor regulations and support business operations according to project plan. This position assesses compliance of underwriting rules, guidelines, procedures, and programs. This position will oversee projects that are complex and require significant expertise in insurance/insurance-like products and compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under general direction, assists in the analysis of the company's regulatory compliance posture and the development of control recommendations.
- Consults with product management, claims and sales management to keep field abreast of changes.
- Balance compliance needs with business and company strategies and create a department culture that instills team values and emphasizes empowerment of individuals.
- Responsible for answering compliance questions from the field, Corporate offices and partners.
- Researches questions regarding regulations, products and competition.
- Provides recommendations of means to improve compliance controls, conducts analysis and creates reports to help improve the compliance of the business.
- Knowledgeable of current state and federal regulations and legal requirements relating to the company’s products and services including, but not limited to, licensing, form filing, form disclosures, cancellation rules and financial responsibility requirements.
- Monitors, tracks and communicates (both internally and to external partners) changes in state and federal regulations and legal requirements relating to the company’s products and services.
- Actively participates in the company’s trade associations.
- Maintains and updates when necessary the company’s template customer agreements to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and legal requirements.
- Works closely with other departments such as account management, risk and underwriting during product development.
Job Requirements:
- JD degree from accredited law school
- Minimum 1-2 years of compliance experience
- Related industry compliance experience strongly preferred. Related industries include our direct competitors, Automotive F&I industry, home warranties, consumer goods service contracts or insurance industry required.
- Experience in telemarketing and privacy related regulations considered a plus
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of MS Project
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, database applications and document management software
- Proficiency with software, including Nils, Serff, Westlaw, ODEN and internet research
- Experience working with the state and federal legal and regulatory agencies preferred
- Experience in legislative review, analysis and reporting preferred
- Deep technical knowledge of service contracts, debt cancellation agreements, vehicle protection products, motor club products, and insurance products, processes and services preferred
- Experience developing and maintaining compliance programs and procedures preferred
- Demonstrated history of establishing relationships with State Insurance Department (and other relevant regulatory agencies’) personnel and examiners preferred
- Experience handling corporate licensing and other functions related to the operations of a third-party administrator preferred
- Detail oriented, organized and patient individual
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to do compliance research
- Strong leadership, project management and relationship management skills
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
