Our analytics team is a growing team here at Mailchimp to support our strategic initiatives across Product Management, Engineering and Design as Mailchimp continues to evolve. We are seeking a motivated and energetic product scientist to support the growth of the analytics function of this team.
As a Principal Product Scientist on the Product Science team, you will help lead strategic, data-driven decision making at Mailchimp. In this role, you will apply a variety of analytical tools and techniques to conduct deep dive analysis to both help understand and better explain customer behavior and business trends as well as predict future business outcomes. You will partner with stakeholders across the company -- product, finance, marketing, legal, and others -- to support strategic and tactical Product requests and build cross-functional analyses, reporting, experimentation, and modeling to arm Mailchimp with insights that will help steer our future.
This position is based in Atlanta, GA or New York City. We offer relocation.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large behavioral data sets to create a complete picture of the Mailchimp customer, their behaviors, and needs, turning them into actionable recommendations and insights that tie to larger strategic business goals
- Analyze multiple types of data (e.g., web traffic, product usage, orders, customer experience, etc. ) that provide a complete picture of users behavior from attraction, awareness, conversion, usage, and retention
- Manage sitewide tagging framework, implementation spec, and engineering requirements for analytics tracking; oversee migration of analytics tracking.
- Guide other product analysts and researchers on the design, execution, and analysis of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research studies
- Own and build analytical tools and solutions addressing product and business needs and questions enabling better decisions by leadership
- Lead complex analytics requirements conversations, communicate with stakeholders to plan analysis approach, and guide key decisions
- Create new reporting and dashboards, data infrastructure, and queries to track key marketing metrics across multiple data sources leveraging SQL, R/Python, Looker, Tableau, and other visualization tools; monitor for changes in trends, share insights and make recommendations
- Work with strategic initiative owners and key stakeholders to identify and conduct targeted analyses on high-priority topics; provide subject matter expertise on product analytics topics
- Develop narratives and recommendations from analyses, build presentations, and present findings to business stakeholders
- Strong product sense - ability to identify and size new product opportunities to strategically grow the business
- Partner with strategic initiative owners and key stakeholders to define KPIs and build dashboard reporting to help the business make data-informed decisions
- Support experimentation design of to measure impact of product changes; synthesize and present results
- Coordinate data infrastructure work to ensure appropriate tracking is in-place to conduct high-quality analyses
- Build analytics roadmaps to support and align with Product roadmaps
- 9+ years of experience in an analytics-focused role, prior work experience within a technology (software) company
- Proven experience analyzing data from a variety of sources (quantitative and qualitative), presenting the data in a clear and concise manner, and create actionable insights
- Expertise in SQL
- Experience with statistical methods such as regression and hypothesis testing
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience with data visualization tools, e.g. Looker and Tableau
- Ability to build relationships, be persuasive and influential within and across immediate working groups
- Experience working with cloud based data warehouses like Google BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake
- Experience working in an Agile Product Development environment a plus
- Experience with mentoring others in User Experience Research practice
- Bachelor’s or Graduate degree, Field of Studies required: In a quantitative field or commensurate experience such at Statistics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Applied Math, Econometrics or Operations Research, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of web analytics and user behavior analysis (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, etc.)
