Norwood-Fontbonne Academy (NFA) is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and ambitious Director of Finance to serve as an integral member of its dedicated leadership team. NFA is a pre-k through grade 8, Catholic, independent, co-ed, elementary school sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph and located in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania.
Position Overview
The Director of Finance is responsible for Norwood-Fontbonne Academy’s business operations aligned with the Mission and Vision of Norwood-Fontbonne Academy as a sponsored work of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia. The Director of Finance serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and works closely with its members, as well as with all school constituencies.The Director of Finance is responsible for the development, direction and administration of all financial affairs, financial planning, facilities and maintenance resources, human resources, and financial aid. This position reports directly to the President and works closely with the Finance and Campus Planning Committees of the Board. This position is an on-site, full-time, 12-month position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop an approach to the business operations of NFA together with the President that creates a spirit of unity, respect, harmony, and cooperation among the students, faculty, staff, parents and broader community in ways integral to NFA Mission and Vision
- Manages and supervises the Finance Department and its staff regarding planning, organization and management (including bank reconciliation, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing and investing), budgeting, financial reporting, human resources, payroll, contracts for facility rentals, and capital improvement planning.
- Establishes policies, procedures, standards and strategies for areas of responsibility and provides adequate internal control capabilities and strengths to safeguard the school’s assets and prepare the annual budget.
- Maintains compliance with governmental regulations and changing regulatory environment by staying current on law and regulations that may affect compliance.
- Coordinate the management and the investment of all funds in consultation with the President.
- Plan with the President, other Directors, and other appropriate groups the future needs in curriculum, facilities, technology, and maintenance as they impact finances
- Use standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures appropriate for non-profit educational institutions and to keep an accurate continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school
- Ensure the formulation and dissemination of school financial policies and regulations, in particular those for spending, tuition, financial aid, and scholarships
- Prepare, with the appropriate persons, and monitor, in conjunction with the President and the Advisory Board the annual school budget
- Prepare a monthly operating statement for the President and receive and review monthly financial reports from the NFA Parents Association, and all Directors
- Provide for the annual review of the school’s financial records and financial position in conjunction with auditors
- Oversee all school purchasing, financial investments, banking, payroll, and benefits programs in conjunction with the President.
- Assist the President of school with decisions regarding salaries and benefits for all personnel
Essential Skills, Requirements, Education, and Experience:
- Demonstrates a commitment to embracing Catholic education, specifically the mission of NFA and the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
- A minimum of three to five years experience in school business management and/or non-profit business operations
- BA/BS in Accounting or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Exceptional personal integrity, accountability, and commitment to results.
- A team player and team builder that has a passion for and commitment to achieving excellence in all aspects of the school’s mission.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to identify and resolve issues. Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in developing a long-term strategic vision and accomplishing organizational and financial goals.
- Results-oriented, able to see concepts and ideas through to implementation with the assistance of key constituencies; demonstrates a strong ability to set and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, requiring minimal direction for completing assignments and projects.
