Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization in providing high quality care to Maine’s veteran population in its 6 homes throughout Maine. The CEO works closely with the board, staff, veterans, legislature, family members and other interested constituencies to develop short and long-term goals and strategies to achieve MVH’s mission and vision. The CEO will play a key leadership role in advocating for sustainable funding to support ongoing operations and the organization’s ability to meet new regulatory requirements.

Requirements of the CEO: - Proven executive experience leading a large, complex health care organization with multiple complex funding streams; preferably in nursing home care or hospital administration.
- Experience developing and effectively implementing strategic and operational plans/budgets across the organization.
- Highly skilled in advocacy and government/public relations skills.
- Superior abilities in strategic communications to internal and external audiences.Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information in an audience-appropriate manner.
- Demonstrated success in developing and managing a strong board and leadership team.
- Compliance and quality management mindset and background with extensive experience with federal and state regulatory compliance including CMS/DHHS regulations; VA regulations experience a plus.
- Master’s degree in health administration or related field.

Responsibilities of the CEO: - Strategic Planning: Engage board and staff in a strategic planning process that supports the organizational mission, anticipates the needs of the next generation of veterans and is developed within the context of constraints in the funding and regulatory environment.
- Operational Execution: Work closely with senior leadership and staff to implement operating plans, budgets, policies and procedures. Develop strategies to gain buy in and support of initiatives. Ensure consistency and efficiency of operations reflecting the MVH ‘brand experience’ and delivery high quality care to its veterans and families.
- Advocacy and Public Relations: Serve as the Chief Advocate for MVH. Engage in direct advocacy and relationship building efforts with local, state, and federal elected officials, including the Governor of Maine, to secure ongoing financial support to sustain MVH operations. Work closely with the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management, Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee of the Maine Legislatures, Department of Veterans Affairs, and many veteran’s service organizations to advocate for MVH. Oversee community and regional media engagement to promote and advance MVH’s mission.
- Leadership and Workforce Development: Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain qualified staff. This includes developing a strong, values-based culture, training, and development opportunities, as well as a competitive compensation and benefits structure.
- Financial Management: Work closely with the CFO to monitor the organization’s financial position and provide transparent communication to the board and key stakeholders to inform decisions.Develop and monitor appropriate risk management strategies and internal controls.
- Compliance: Ensure that the organization complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. This includes CMS/DHHS regulations as well as VA requirements.
- Development: Identify and implement key development programs to diversify MVH funding and support organization sustainability.
