Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS), Beavercreek Ohio, is seeking a Sr. Principal Data Scientist to support the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of data across the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH. NSIC is a field operating agency that is responsible for performing national and military space missions and evaluating capabilities, performance, limitations, and vulnerabilities of space and counter-space systems and services.
Your responsibilities:
Aid in assessing the current state of data management within NSIC. Identify existing data assets, systems, and processes. Develop a comprehensive understanding of data needs, challenges, and opportunities.
Provide recommendations for robust data infrastructure and architecture to support the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of data across NSIC. Identify modern technologies such as cloud computing, big data platforms, and analytics tools to enable scalable and efficient data management.
Implement a comprehensive data lifecycle management framework that encompasses data acquisition, ingestion, storage, processing, analysis, sharing, and disposal. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices throughout the data lifecycle.
Establish mechanisms for ensuring data quality and integrity across disparate data sources within NSIC. Implement data integration solutions to enable seamless interoperability and information exchange between different systems and organizations.
Leverage advanced analytics techniques such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data visualization to derive actionable insights from NSIC-produced data.
Identify training programs and capacity building initiatives to empower NSIC personnel with the knowledge and skills required for effective data management.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 7 years of relevant experience; PhD in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience
Understanding of IC data requirements and challenges.
Ability to align data initiatives with the DoD's strategic goals and IC mission objectives.
Knowledge of data lifecycle management, including data governance, data quality, and data security.
Understanding of data architecture frameworks and the ability to design scalable, secure, and efficient data systems.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-based data storage and processing.
Proficiency with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and data warehousing solutions.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to present data insights effectively.
An active Top-Secret clearance with SCI.
Preferred Qualifications:
Product Lifecycle experience
Proficient using query languages such as SQL
Experience mentoring and leading peers in data science projects
Strong applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
JMP proficiency (SAS statistical tool) and experience scripting in JSL
MATLAB experience
Salary Range: $133,000 - $199,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
