The Counsel position will be an integral part of the Regulatory, Operations, Government Affairs and Environmental team. The Counsel will assist the Deputy Chief Counsel and Principal Counsel on various transactional, operational and regulatory legal matters primarily for Disney Signature Experiences (with a focus on Disney Cruise Line) and also the Walt Disney World Resort. This role will be located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Responsibilities:
- Research and maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state, local and maritime laws and of industry legal standards and norms; analyze how these might impact the relevant businesses and keep the Deputy Chief Counsel and Principal Counsel fully informed of relevant legal issues.
- Assist with drafting contracts, legal memos, and other legal documents.
- Assist with reviews and edits of policies and other documents from applicable client departments to ensure that potential legal implications are appropriately addressed.
- Recommend, with appropriate approvals, strategies, and initiatives to minimize the legal risks of current operations and proposed actions.
- Perform such other duties or functions as the Deputy Chief Counsel and Principal Counsel may assign.
Basic Qualifications:
- This is an entry level position that requires a minimum of two (2) years legal experience, preferably in a large law firm.
- Excellent research, writing and verbal skills.
- Able to identify and analyze complex and nuanced legal issues.
- Must be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Exceptional judgment and work ethic.
- Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Federal clerkship.
- Experience with contract negotiation and drafting.
- Familiarity with maritime law.
- Experience with OSHA, ADA, ABT and environmental regulations.
Required Education:
- JD or equivalent from an accredited law school.
- Membership in the Florida State Bar in good standing or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel.
