What You’ll Do
You will directly manage a team of engineers that work with Viant’s ad server, managing a high-volume, low-latency application that processes billions of unique requests a day. This role offers a great opportunity to build up, hire, and mentor a team contributing towards the success of Viant’s products. Primarily supporting Viant’s Demand Side Platform, VIANT DSP, you will collaborate with stakeholders in Product, other Engineering and Technical operations teams on spec creation and provide production support.
THE DAY-TO-DAY
- Manage a team of engineers, provide technical guidance, help remove roadblocks, and lead them to achieve business objectives.
- Attract, develop and retain highly skilled engineers, who thrive working in an innovative, user-focused, and fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to the development and continuous review of existing projects as well as participate in view and scope of future projects.
- Collaborate with other internal teams to create and iterate on the runtime platform to create a highly reliable, highly-available, low-latency runtime platform.
- Have an outsized impact by owning multiple subsystems of the runtime platform.
- Manage all phases of the software development life cycle.
Qualifications And Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in the software industry, including 2+ as a people manager and 5+ in commercial software applications.
- Knowledge of modern programming languages, especially Java and GO.
- Knowledge of relational databases like MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server & experience in writing SQL.
GREAT TO HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
- Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Knowledge of cloud-based technologies, especially AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Hands-on experience designing, building and delivering high-quality scalable, operationally sustainable software.
- Ad tech industry experience is a plus.

$180,000 - $220,000 a year
In accordance with California law, the range provided is Viant’s reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. Final title and compensation for the position will be based on several factors including work experience and education.
