A law firm in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a Patent Attorney with a strong background in patent prosecution and technical expertise. The ideal candidate will be a USPTO-licensed patent attorney with at least 3 years of experience. Preferred candidates will have a technical background in electrical engineering, fiber optic communications, and/or encryption/security. The role requires expertise in patent law, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Conduct patentability analyses and freedom-to-operate opinions for clients.
- Develop and execute strategies for patent portfolio management and enforcement.
- Perform prior art searches and analysis to support patent applications and litigation.
- Draft and review patent claims, specifications, and responses to office actions.
- Provide technical and legal advice to clients on patent-related matters, including patent prosecution and litigation.
- Collaborate with clients, technical experts, and colleagues to understand and address complex patent issues.
- Monitor and stay updated on changes in patent law and related technologies.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and negotiations as needed.
Requirements:
- USPTO license required.
- At least 3 years of patent prosecution experience is preferred.
- Technical background in electrical engineering, fiber optic communications, and/or encryption/security is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
Education and Certifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- USPTO license to practice as a patent attorney.
Skills:
- Expertise in patent prosecution and patent law.
- In-depth technical knowledge in electrical engineering, fiber optic communications, and/or encryption/security.
