River Valley Counseling Center is a well-respected provider of behavioral health services in Western Massachusetts. Its history of serving the area’s most vulnerable individuals dates back to 1953. The agency has over 350 employees who are located in our eight facilities and over 68 schools throughout the counties it serves. This $32 million system of care serves over 10,000 individuals annually, including children, adolescents, families, and adults.
This position is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors and the COO of Valley Health System.
The Position
The Executive Director has ultimate responsibility for ensuring the success and future growth of River Valley Counseling Center while operating within the larger delivery system of Valley Health Systems. River Valley Counseling Center is seeking a strong, transparent leader to build upon the success and growth while supporting the staff in its ongoing commitment to its mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
With this in mind, the ideal candidate will:
- be successful and experienced working with a Board of Directors, an Executive Leadership Team in a non-profit community based behavioral health setting;
- have demonstrated success at leading, managing, developing, and directing well-functioning teams;
- have a true comfort level being the “face” of an organization, connecting with the agency’s communities as well as state and federal officials;
- have a history of success as a collaborator/partner with external organizations & systems, including a successful history of working as a community leader in partnership with businesses and elected officials;
- have successful political/advocacy experience at a local, regional, and state level;
- have a solid understanding of anticipated changes in the “marketplace,” at both a state and federal level;
- be familiar with federal and state health care corporate compliance;
- have experience in effectively managing change within organizations and a strong willingness to seek out linkages and opportunities within Valley Health Systems;
- have a track record of fund raising and the development of new funding sources;
- have a management & leadership style that includes effective collaboration, delegation and is results driven;
- be both a motivator and one who inspires others by being an effective communicator who possesses a sense of humor;
- have had leadership experiences that include operations, finance, information technology, quality and risk management, and human resources, within a complex behavioral healthcare/human services setting;
- have strong financial acumen that includes administrative oversight of funding including budget development, maintenance management, financial reporting and a strong understanding of state and federal grant processes;
- be able to demonstrate a track record for innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and be someone often considered a “visionary;”
- demonstrate data-driven decision making and use of data analytics in the management of organizations;
- possess prior success in the development of systems & processes in the recruitment & retention of employees;
- support and understand a culture of diversity, equity, belonging and engagement.
Experience: Master’s degree in a health care specialty or healthcare administration from an accredited program.
Education: Ten (10) years of progressive executive leadership experience in a mental health and/or primary care setting.
