Description
The Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Senior Research Scientist specializing in Quantum Information Sciences to serve as the Head of Quantum Information Sciences. This role focuses on applied quantum communications, quantum sensing, and quantum computing to support national security agencies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in building and leading successful research teams, as well as a demonstrated ability to secure funding through proposing and winning science and technology development programs in the quantum technologies field.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead and oversee cutting-edge research projects in quantum communications, quantum sensing, and quantum computing with a direct impact on national security.
Develop and implement strategic research plans to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum technologies.
Manage and mentor a team of research scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Propose and secure funding for research programs by writing and submitting compelling grant proposals to national security agencies and other relevant funding bodies.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and academic institutions, to advance research objectives and applications.
Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in quantum technologies, and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation within the team.
Ensure the highest standards of scientific integrity and research ethics are maintained in all projects.
Basic Qualifications
Master's with 15+ years of prior relevant experience or Ph.D. degree and 13+ years in physics, applied physics, engineering, or related fields. (Ph.D. degree is preferred)
Research experience and experimental background in one or more of the following areas: quantum optics, quantum entanglement, photonics, quantum communications, quantum information science, quantum sensing, and/or quantum computing.
Experience developing innovative solutions based upon the application of relevant research.
Extensive experience in developing and writing technical proposals.
Record of publishing to peer-reviewed journals and presenting research at conferences.
Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. degree is preferred.
Experience in building and leading a large research and development team.
Innovation leader in quantum information and quantum computing.
Understanding of various quantum algorithms and their applications in fields like cryptography, optimization, and materials science.
Understanding of techniques for measuring magnetic fields with high precision, including the use of NV centers in diamond, atomic vapor cells, and superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) .
Knowledge of using quantum sensors to measure gravitational fields with high precision.

Pay Range:Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
