You will perform and support treatment planning operations at our partner/customer sites. In addition to routine planning, you will have the opportunity to participate in development work in treatment planning and clinical services. A component of the role may involve assisting departments to commission and validate state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment techniques.
The role will involve a substantial component of remote working while maintaining routine communication with the customer and clinical teams. You will support one or more clinical partners, working collaboratively with the local radiation oncology team to produce high-quality patient treatment plans to an agreed timeline, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained in accordance with local department protocols and procedures for radiation oncology treatment planning and delivery.
Specific Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for ensuring delivery of high-quality treatment plans in a timely manner while building strong relationships with key individuals at partner/customer sites to ensure the success of the service.
- You will adhere to clinical services standards at partner sites, ensuring that treatment plans are optimized appropriately to deliver the prescribed dose safely while sparing critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's requirements.
- Have the requisite knowledge of human anatomy to identify and contour organs at risk (OARs) using conventional treatment planning datasets (e.g., CT, MRI, PET-CT).
- Where applicable, ensure full compliance with national regulations relating to the optimization of radiotherapy treatment planning and delivery. Support the implementation of local patient safety standards and practices as required.
- Advocate and help drive the introduction of automation in all areas of the treatment planning pathway, e.g., auto-contouring, plan checking, etc.
- Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for pre-treatment verification imaging, to include DRRs, CBCTs, and other IGRT and SGRT methods, as specified by the partner/customer site.
- Ensure that specific treatment plan setup instructions are clearly documented in the R&V system or other suitable location, confirming that the instructions have been clearly communicated to the treatment team (e.g., correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters).
- Aiding knowledge transfer to help develop capability within local clinical teams: when necessary, facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer to implement new technology from initial conception through to clinical operation.
- Some travel may be required to attend Varian team meetings and/or new partner/customer sites.
Skills and Expertise:
- HBO MBRT or radiation therapy or equivalent (desirable but not essential to have qualified as a dosimetrist in the Netherlands).
- Familiarity with modern treatment planning systems – specifically Eclipse and Raystation TPS would be beneficial and in-depth knowledge of record and verify systems.
- Accurate record keeping with an eye for detail.
- Experience in all aspects of radiotherapy treatment planning, including image registration (CT, MRI, and PET), inverse treatment planning, volumetric arc therapy, and multi-criteria dose optimization, etc.
- Motivated and keen to implement change, willing to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service and support clinical need.
- Display a high level of independence (be self-led) with the ability to work efficiently and make decisions appropriately as necessary.
- Have the requisite knowledge of anatomy, physiology, principles of clinical oncology and radiobiology, radiotherapy physics, and radiation safety to fulfill the role.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with both radiation oncology colleagues and commercial partners inside and outside the business.
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills with a proactive mindset and a can-do attitude.
- Proficient in utilizing business tools such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- A high degree of freedom and independence in managing your workload and work/life balance.
- Hybrid working – allowing you to work from home and attend partner/customer sites as required.
- Colleagues who are glad to help and ensure the success of your role and develop your career within the business.
