As a Principal Data Scientist, you will collaborate with executive and cross-functional stakeholders to align business objectives with data science initiatives, identify high impact business challenges and opportunities, analyze complex datasets, extract meaningful insights, and develop/deploy/monitor data driven solutions. You will mentor and set the technical direction of the team. Your passion and expertise in data analysis, statistics, and machine learning will be instrumental in driving data-driven products and services across the banking industry.
Responsibilities:
- Leads high-impact and complex projects, setting the technical direction for these projects.
- Collaborates with executive stakeholders and third-party partners to align business objectives with data science initiatives.
- Develops efficient, scalable, and production-ready code.
- Strong experience in advanced data manipulation, cleaning, and transformation techniques at scale.
- Develops, deploys, and monitors complex machine learning models with the ability to lead and guide teams in implementing programming best practices and adopting emerging technologies.
- A thought leader within the organization – uses a combination of skills, knowledge, and effective communication to influence and shape the organization's data-driven decision-making processes.
- Stays current with knowledge of the latest trends, technologies and developments in analytics and machine learning to help develop and implement data science strategies, optimize efficiency, and identify new value streams.
- Identifies and prepares data sources.
- Analyzes large amounts of data to discover trends and patterns.
- Researches, creates, and applies machine learning/statistical solutions.
- Works with colleagues to deploy and monitor solutions to complex machine learning or data-driven products.
- Presents findings to stakeholders.
- Continually deepens knowledge of the technologies and developments in analytics and machine learning.
- Influences project direction, data-driven strategies, and the implementation of data science solutions.
- Mentors and guides junior data scientists within the organization, sharing knowledge, providing training, and helping to develop the skills of team members.
- Engages in cross-functional collaboration: works closely with other business units to identify data science opportunities and drive initiatives that have a broader impact on the organization.
- Contributes to the advancement of the data science field through research and thought leadership. Publishes thought leadership articles, attends conferences, and stays updated with the latest trends and techniques.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent related experience.
- 6+ years of experience or a combination of experience and education.
- Demonstrated mastery of programming skills in Python or R.
- Experience with data visualization tools (DOMO, AWS Quicksight, Tableau, etc.).
- Demonstrated mastery of machine learning algorithms and techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong experience with SQL or noSQL and database management systems.
- Experience deploying and monitoring models in production.
- Expert understanding of the business domain.
- Flexibility and the ability to be productive in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with production code practices (unit testing, OOP, error handling, logging, contract testing, version control, etc.).
Desired:
- Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience developing and deploying models using Databricks and mlflow.
- Experience with AWS tools and services, including Lambda, Sagemaker, S3, Athena, Quicksight.
