Job Description
As an Associate Counsel within NBCUniversal’s Latin America business, you will support the business on a wide range of legal matters relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America. You will also be tasked with supporting the development of processes and templates designed to ensure the long-term efficiency of the legal function.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate, draft, and interpret legal documents relating to both revenue-generating deals (e.g., distribution agreements and promotion authorizations designed to acquire and retain subscribers) as well as cost deals (e.g., technical operations, strategy and insights, and finance vendor agreements).
- Partner with the Distribution Team to develop best practices in line with NBCUniversal’s content rights.
- Manage and advise the business regarding corporate governance matters, including strategic transactions, governing documentation, intercompany service arrangements, local corporate filings, and powers of attorney.
- Provide timely regulatory legal advice, focusing on creative solutions to overcome challenges.
- Analyze regulatory developments and collaborate with industry groups with the goal of identifying and managing possible impacts to the business.
- Communicate effectively to internal clients to ensure efficient management of open matters, including organizing and leading meetings as necessary.
- Assist in the development of the legal function’s expertise by sharing your knowledge, such as in deal de-briefings.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts, including local counsel as well as NBCUniversal’s Corporate legal teams, including the Compliance, Tax, Corporate Secretary, Privacy, Cyber Security, and Litigation Teams.
- Work with the Content Protection Team to combat piracy in the region, including the drafting of cease and desist letters, collaboration with allies, and lobbying applicable governments to gain support.
- Inspire collaboration across the legal function by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant counterparts across the globe.
- Train and counsel the business on applicable policies and best practices, including approval processes, key contractual issues, and risk management.
- Assist in the development of templates and ensure that they are accurately maintained.
- Provide support on any other matters that the business or legal function may need.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- J.D. from accredited law school, demonstrated academic achievement, and current bar membership in good standing.
- A minimum of 2 years of media business and legal affairs experience at a law firm and/or media company.
- Language: Fluent in English & Spanish, Portuguese is a plus.
