Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer - Global Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.
This position is for a mid-level Software Engineer in the C2BMC GLOBAL program. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for software development using Java.
- Provide in-depth analysis and technical support of a large, distributed system written in Java.
- Resolve complex problems, design, develop, test, integrate, and support users for a large code baseline.
- Follow specifications to develop or modify functionality within the code.
- Assist with design, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation. Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve efficiency.
- Design, code, test, and implement tools for automation.
- Command and control system application development.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to work effectively in a rapid-paced, team environment.
- Knowledge of software practices and coding standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root causes, recommend and develop a solution.
- Previous experience with message translation software.
- Automated test and pipeline development experience.
- Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms.
- Experience with Software Integration testing, including developing automated test scripts.
- Experience with Risk Management Framework/STIG/Fortify mitigation.
- Prior experience designing and developing microservices and deploying with containers; experience setting up a container environment.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI clearance is highly desired.
- It is highly desired that one possess a current DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA).
- Experience working as part of an Agile team.
- Familiarity with Java Spring.
- Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of server-side development and message passing.
- Experience developing enterprise applications.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office products.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks.
- Use of common software development and management tools such as git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven or Gradle, and Eclipse.
- Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and UML diagrams.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
