Assistant/Associate Professor
UT Health San Antonio, Department of Pediatrics, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is recruiting a pediatric endocrinologist at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, to join a team of 8 providers in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. Salary, rank, and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The position requires strong clinical skills and a commitment to clinical research. The division supports a 3-year ACGME accredited fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology; thus this position also requires the skills to precept our UT fellows, residents, and medical students. The candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology. The applicant must be eligible to hold an unrestricted Texas medical license.
The Pediatric Endocrine division has 8 faculty members and an active Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship program. There are 3 diabetes educators, 3 nurses, 4 MAs, and one social worker in clinic in addition to administrative and inpatient staff. The candidate will share clinical responsibilities in outpatient clinics and inpatient consult service call. This individual will have the opportunity for protected time for academic clinical research in the Division. Current research includes NIH, private and pharmaceutically funded projects focused on Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1 diabetes bionic pancreas pediatric clinical trial, comorbidities of genetic obesity, and social determinants of health in diabetes. Other ongoing investigations include our thyroid and cystic fibrosis centers of excellence for pediatric thyroid nodule and cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and liver disease research, a pheochromocytoma registry, and oncology research projects. Our division collaborates with the co-located adult diabetes care clinics and research facilities at the Texas Diabetes Institute led by Dr. Ralph DeFronzo. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop additional clinical research projects. We share fellowship resources with other pediatric subspecialty fellowships as well as adult endocrine and reproductive endocrine fellowships at UT Health.
Our University Hospital-based clinics and inpatient wards are expanding with a new 12-story, 300-bed hospital for women, babies, and children which opens in early 2023.
