Paralegal Specialist II – Criminal Intake Unit

Position Overview
The Paralegal Specialist II in the Criminal Intake Unit is responsible for interviewing individuals who are requesting to file criminal misdemeanor charges. The work shift for this position is 8:30am to 5:00pm.
The Job Responsibilities are:
- Handling walk-in complaints to determine if criminal charges can be filed
- Taking sworn testimony from victims, witnesses and officers
- Preparing felony warrant cases
- Submitting clear, concise, and grammatically correct written statement of facts for the attorney’s review
- Handling high volume public contact
- Researching and evaluate information
- Referring the public to appropriate community agencies
- Providing back-up paralegal coverage for the State Attorney’s Office various branch locations when necessary
- Providing excellent customer service at all times
- Performing other related duties as assigned
The Minimum requirements are:
- Bachelor’s degree, and one (1) year experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, or Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
- Associate degree and three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, or Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
- Successful completion of a two (2) year Paralegal program and three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, or Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator), or
- Five (5) years equivalent combination of experience working as a as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Counselor, Case Analyst, or Legal Secretary (Trial Coordinator)
The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:
- Being fluent in English/Spanish or English/Creole
- Possessing knowledge of the criminal justice system
