Position Information
The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor to be the inaugural Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Department beginning Fall 2025. We invite skilled teacher-scholars committed to inclusive, equity-minded teaching with a demonstrated record of scholarship to join our teaching-centered and research-active School, which is committed to undergraduate education.
The successful applicant will lead the School’s new Department of Biomedical Engineering and will be responsible for the growth and development of its B.S. degree program which began in Fall 2024. Aside from managing the Department, administrative duties will include refining the curriculum, hiring faculty to build the Department, arranging and managing faculty joint appointments with other Gonzaga departments and institutes, guiding the program through ABET accreditation, and other administrative duties as required.
Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or in a closely related technical discipline. The areas of expertise are open, encompassing all research areas of the biomedical engineering field, and may be experimental, computational, and/or theoretical. Aside from administrative duties, the candidate will be expected to:
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching, including equity-minded teaching
- Maintain an active scholarship agenda and research program
- Advise undergraduate students including students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved communities
- Provide service to the institution as an academic citizen
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or in a closely related technical discipline
- For Associate Professor candidates, 7 years of experience at the Assistant Professor level and above
- For Full Professor candidates, 5 years of experience at the Associate Professor level
- Demonstrated record of teaching and mentoring students with diverse backgrounds, identities, cultures, and experiences
- Demonstrated ability to establish and run a research program that may be tailored for undergraduate students
Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant teaching record with a focus on undergraduate instruction
- Engineering practice in academic, industry, or government settings
- ABET or similar accreditation record
- Administrative record
Hiring Salary: Associate Professor: $108,076 – $115,281; Full Professor: $141,792 - $151,245; commensurate with education and experience, additional stipend for chair position.
