The AmFam Trial Attorney provides legal representation in moderately complex litigation representing either the insured policyholder or the corporation itself within established corporate guidelines, the applicable code of professional responsibility, and applicable standards of good faith. You will report to a Senior Legal Manager.
Primary Accountabilities
- You will practice in both state and federal courts in Colorado.
- You will try cases to juries in a first chair role.
- You will draft all necessary pleadings, papers and briefs to advance litigation.
- You will conduct necessary legal research to support drafting activities.
- You will conduct discovery (e.g. written interrogatories, requests for production of documents, taking and defending depositions).
- You will conduct motion practice.
- You will analyze file as litigation progresses and evaluate cases and seek settlement authority.
- You will advocate your client’s position in all forums (state and federal court, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals and regulatory hearings) and circumstances, both.
- You will stay current on state and federal law and practice standards. You will analyze how changes statutes and court decisions affect our business and practice.
Qualifications
- Litigation experience required
- Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses.
- Solid knowledge of Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Solid knowledge of Colorado Rules of Professional Responsibility.
- Solid knowledge of tort, contract, and insurance law.
- Ability to travel throughout Colorado.
- Admission and good standing with the Colorado State Bar required.
- Licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court for Colorado and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals within a year of hiring.
- Juris Doctor from ABA Accredited law school.
While this is a home-based role, you will be required to travel as required by the needs of your case assignments. On occasion, additionally, you will be required to attend in person team meetings, training or engagement activities.
