The Opportunity
As the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), you oversee all Marketing and Communications activities, leading the strategy, and ensuring effective channels for corporate partners, philanthropic donors, and other constituents. Your responsibilities include enhancing brand presence, spreading MLT’s thought leadership, attracting new partners, recruiting program fellows, and securing donors. Your primary operational focus will be on expanding capacity, capabilities, and processes necessary to advance MLT's strategy to dramatically scale its impact over the next decade. Additionally, you will oversee the execution of a major 20th Anniversary gala and campaign. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) Casey Recupero, you will collaborate with our CEO and Founder John Rice, as well as other executives to crystallize and amplify MLT’s unique narrative on what it takes to advance racial equity. Work You’ll Do - Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Leadership: Provide strategic oversight for all marketing initiatives, directing the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing and communication strategies in close collaboration with the Executive Team.
- Channel Development: Strategically develop and manage channels such as owned media, earned media, and events to effectively disseminate messaging to target audiences, including Corporate Leaders, Philanthropists, and other MLT Constituents (Alumni, Fellows, and Potential Fellows).
- B2B and Institutional Partnership Expertise: Proven track record in developing and executing B2B marketing strategies, fostering impactful relationships with corporate, philanthropic, and academic partners, and driving successful lead generation initiatives to meet organizational objectives.
- Brand Experience: Spearhead event planning and brand experience strategies to shape stakeholder perceptions and enhance engagement with MLT, while also building and managing MLT's brand with our target audiences.
- Marquee Events: Lead messaging and marketing efforts for marquee events, including our 20th-anniversary celebration slated for 2025.
- PR/Media Coverage: Use MLT’s insights to engage the media to disseminate MLT’s key messages and challenge them to think differently about our issues. You will collaborate closely with our PR firm to maximize media coverage and advance our point of view.
- Strategic Communications: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive messaging strategies to amplify MLT's key narratives and foster stakeholder engagement across various channels, including owned media, earned media, and strategic events, thereby enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation.
What You Have- Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field; MBA is a plus.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in Marketing and Communications, with at least 10 years in a leadership capacity.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in brand marketing to captivate key audiences across diverse channels and content formats.
- Advanced expertise in large-scale in-person events.
- Knowledge in creating and executing comprehensive issue-related marketing and communications plans.
