Summary:
Provides quality health care in the Hospital, including Inpatient, Observation, SwingBed and Emergency Departments, in keeping with community values and as outlined in the Hospital Mission Statement, Policies and Procedures and Standards.
Within the limits of the provider's employment contract, the Physician is responsible to provide medical services, including (but not limited to) history and physical examinations, patient/family education, diagnosing and treating presenting ailments, provision of emergency interventions, consultations and discharge summaries. Supervises and provides backup to Allied Health Professionals in the hospital setting. Provides clinical services/support to patients and hospital departments.

Requirements
Education, Training or Certifications Required:
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Adherent to MDI Hospital Medical and Allied Health Professional Staff Bylaws.
- Credentialed as active Medical Staff at MDI Hospital.
- DEA active license.
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certified.
Experience Required:
- Inpatient acute care experience required and Hospitalist experience preferred .
Special Requirements:
- Ability to utilized computer skills in communication and use of Electronic Health Record and Data Resources such as Maine Health Info Net.
Cognitive Requirements:
- Emotional maturity and good people skills required.
- Ability to work with distressed or anxious patients or family members.
- Ability to take in, process and apply clinical information in a wide variety of patient care situations.
- Ability to learn new techniques and incorporate them, through a new finding, into current practice.
- Ability to process and interpret complex information.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in rising from exam table, push wheelchair and assist patients in rising from and returning to wheelchair.
- Ability to perform under stress.

- Potential for exposure to infectious diseases.
