WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT? In the role of Senior Director, Digital Authoring Workflow and Technology Production, you will be a catalyst for change throughout the organization. You will hold the responsibilities of integrating AI tools into our content creation, editing, production, and assembly processes and strategically manage the shift from a print-first to a digital-first organizational culture. As a leader, you will manage, train and provide guidance to your team on an on-going basis and through the transition to the new digital first workflow.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Lead the transition to a digital-first authoring and assembly workflow, serving as the foundation for the M4 platform.
Ensure the digital authoring workflow supports the flagship product Espirales and facilitates the transition of backlist titles from M3 to M4.
Drive the digital authoring initiative, reimagining the publishing and revision process for the digital age for digital and print products.
Develop strategic operating plans for a converged digital and print publishing process that enables ongoing updates and revisions.
Collaborate with engineering, product, content, editorial, marketing, and sales organizations to establish supporting processes.
Work closely with editorial leaders, and finance to ensure financial and editorial goals such as management of cost expenditure and ensuring ROI through quality improvement, time to market improvement and cost reductions for corrections, derivatives, etc. are met.
Utilize familiarity with digital publishing processes, including LTI and API integrations, content tagging, and data analytics and communicate these requirements across the company.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of the content revision process and update workflows, resolving issues related to physical production and distribution.
Manage the integration of AI tools to streamline content creation, editing, production, and assembly, reducing costs and improving time to market.
Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to facilitate the adoption of new digital processes.
Present the digital-first vision and strategy to stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Ensure the digital authoring workflow is intuitive and user-friendly, encouraging widespread use and collaboration.
Provide input on evaluating the current HTML vText, contribute to planning the M4 architecture and drive us to a buy/build decision.
Aim to push live content updates to digital products in future phases, beyond the initial scope of phase 1.
Work with editorial and sales to set policies and best practices for evergreen publishing and ensure the policies and practices are followed.
Direct and manage legacy digital creation and delivery operations for the production and delivery of digital Maestro 3 and IMS Common Cartridge product lines, including Supersite, Portales, and SmartBook.
Manage the delivery for third-party digital content programs, accessibility features, speech recognition data collection and training, content authoring and management systems, standalone eBooks and integrated online digital readers, assessment content and delivery systems, and interoperable content delivery, including IMS Common Cartridge.
Plan, forecast, and track program and production budgets, schedules, and work plans, optimizing quality, resource efficiency, and time to market. Negotiate budgets with third parties to ensure maximum ROI for spending.
Monitor production pipeline to identify, communicate, and address quality, budget, and product delivery risks. Manage digital production workflows, ensuring that best practices are followed across the department and processes are documented and communicated.
Manage an internal team of project and program managers,

supervise an external team in Medellin, Colombia and oversee/manage external freelancers, temps/contractors, and service vendors as needed. Ensure we maintain a requisite organization, especially as more automation is built into our processes.

Provide digital product and program leadership for cross-functional and senior leadership initiatives to drive innovation, efficiency, and quality across the company.

You Must Have (minimum Required Skills & Experience)

Bachelor’s degree minimum
7+ years’ experience in digital production, product management, program management, or similar in the education/edtech industry
7+ years of people/team management experience
Strong technical acumen and grasp of relevant technologies and tools to solve complex problems
Strong understanding of financial/business principles, budget management, and resource allocation/utilization and experience in making informed business decisions
Excellent analytical skills and experience evaluating data to extract actionable insights, address business challenges and implement strategies
Excellent strategic thinking skills and experience developing long-term business aligned plans
Experience staying up to date with product features, benefits and applications and communicating those to stakeholders appropriately
Experience using industry knowledge and market landscape familiarity to drive growth through strategic initiatives, evaluate risks and opportunities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly and persuasively, listen actively to stakeholders, facilitate effective team communication and collaboration.

LOCATION: Remote or Hybrid/Remote

This position can be remote or local to Boston, MA. If remote, travel to Boston, MA office location a few times per year will be essential. Ideal candidate will reside in the Eastern Time Zone. If local to Boston, may be required to work a 2-day Hybrid in-office/3-day remote schedule. Candidates must reside in the United States to be considered. Relocation is not available for this position.
