ICBL is Barbados’ largest general insurance provider, writing business in all areas of general insurance including Property, Liability, Accident, Motor, Marine, Aviation and Transit Insurance. ICBL also offers insurance coverage for Individual and Group Life, Individual and Group Health, Annuities and Individual and Group Pensions.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the permanent position of Accounting Technician - Credit Reporting in the Finance Business Unit. The position is at the level of Grade 5 in the Company’s compensation structure and will report to the Manager, Credit & Collections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Completes monthly broker reconciliations and the allocation of receipts.
Completes special reporting and ad-hoc projects as directed.
Assists in the development of a credit scoring model for ICBL receivables clients.
Maintains information related to the calculation of expected credit losses (ECL) under IFRS 9.
Supports the reconciliation of other receivable accounts in the General Ledger.
Research, compile and interpret accounting data to aid with the analysis of variances.

Other Duties:

Provides backup to Payment Administration on an as needed basis as assigned by the Manager, Credit & Collections.
Assists with the preparation of external audit schedules and provides supporting documentation as required.
Assists with the collation of information for cash flow projections from credit facilities.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all members of the Broker Unit and external partners.
Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary for the advancement of the Department and by extension the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

Completed a recognized Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
Enrolled in a recognized professional accountancy programme (i.e., ACCA, CPA, CMA).
A minimum of three (3) years’ working experience in an Accounting and/or Finance environment.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Experience in completing account reconciliations will be an asset.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent time management, problem solving and organization skills.
Attention to detail, ability to perform defined, repetitive processes accurately and efficiently.
Deadline oriented and the ability to cope with several tasks.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and work autonomously.
Previous work experience in an insurance environment would be an asset.
